Meet VI$ION. | Artist, Fashion designer, Mental health advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with VI$ION. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi VI$ION., why did you pursue a creative career?
Being artistic is who I am it’s in my blood. It started with my grandfather who’s an art dealer in Chicago and being exposed to that culture opened my eyes and gave me the creative freedom and vision to express myself. Even though I chose fashion and music as my creative path it all intertwines together. Fashion is driven off emotion, it’s a mood depending on how you’re feeling on that particular day, same with music. I’m painting mental pictures with my lyrics and I’m creating a masterpiece on a blank canvas (the beat), and I LOVE it!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So, I started my brand VI$ION: Visualize, Inspire, Succeed, Interact, Opportunity and Networking a few years ago and it started off as a t shirt brand. For a while it had its challenges, I felt like I was lost in the shuffle of some sorts as just printing tees with my logo, well anyone can do that, and a lot of people were doing it, but I had to figure out a way to separate myself from everyone. Not only print merch but make it in such a way that you would want to frame it. I had to master my mind and create freely, create without judgement. I’ve learned that in life you have to BE YOU and I’m most proud of that over anything because I’m a shy person at heart, but I had to overcome my fears of judgement and doubt especially when it came to making music. Some people would say “MUSIC” naw I don’t see it”, you don’t have “the look” or you don’t have “the voice” but forget all that! People are going to say whatever they wanna say but so what! As long as you’re putting your all into your craft and you’re happy with what you created then that’s all that matters. The work will speak for itself, and I just want the world to know that with consistency and faith, ANYTHING is possible, and I believe in you all.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Lol ok ok, well first I would take them to little five points because everyone that knows me knows I love to go thrift shopping. One of my best friends Teon got me into that it’s a true artform you’ll always find some good pieces there. I would also check out one of the live bands that’s out there playing music because there’s nothing like the energy and vibe of a live crowd especially when it’s some good weather outside. I would also take them to this dope restaurant/bar called Suite Lounge, I love the crab and karaoke nights on Wednesdays and the day parties are always dope on the weekends and the people are always in a great mood. Atlanta is one of the best cities you could ever travel too just for the culture alone.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my family and friends; without them this story, my story isn’t even possible. My family is my tribe. In life we all have dreams and goals but sometimes life just doesn’t let us achieve those dreams. I’ve been blessed to have family and friends that have helped me reach my goals thus far even when I had NOTHING to my name. I sacrificed it all when I left my job because I knew in my soul and in my heart, that I was born to be more. I have a VISION that was bigger than a 9-5. I have a VISION that will stand the test of time and I want to inspire millions. So, in saying that I want to give a shoutout to anyone that’s ever had a dream. Anyone that’s ever had a VISION to be the best at whatever it is they wanted to be or do in life. I do this for YOU. TRUST THE VISION!!
