We had the good fortune of connecting with Vida Hepburn Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vida, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The concept of Airport Eats originated when I found myself at the airport, waiting for a delayed flight that stretched to 5 hours. I had two sizable backpacks with me and was seated comfortably at a spot equipped with charging facilities for my devices. Despite the convenience, my hunger was growing, yet I hesitated to venture the distance to find a meal. The prospect of enduring lengthy lines and waiting times for food deterred me. At that moment, a thought occurred to me: “Imagine if someone could deliver the food to where I’m seated.” This notion stuck with me, and thus the idea for Airport Eats was born.

What should our readers know about your business?
I originate from Freeport, Bahamas, where I spent my formative years. Among seven siblings, I hold the position of the third eldest. From a tender age, I possessed a resolute determination and an innate motivation to achieve success, not only for myself but also to support my family and close companions. Manifesting an entrepreneurial mindset early on, I made the decision to embark on a journey to the United States, driven by the aspiration to realize these ambitions.

In 2014, I undertook the move to the US with the primary goal of securing an improved existence for my family. Presently, I stand as the sole proprietor of a thriving logistics and shipping enterprise, The Link which has been catering to the needs of The Bahamas for the past six years. This venture has not only contributed to job creation for my family and friends, but it also stands as a testament to my aspirations turned into accomplishments.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I plan to treat my friends to an enriching week-long excursion in the stunning locale of Grand Bahamas. Our accommodation would be at the charming Bootle Bay Fishing Lodge. Throughout our stay, I would lead them on an island-wide expedition, guiding them through captivating tours, invigorating snorkeling experiences, delightful culinary explorations, and memorable fishing ventures.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I aim to express both acknowledgment and appreciation to the dedicated team behind my Airport Eats startup. In addition to myself, they have committed their time and energy, investing extended hours to transform my concept into a tangible reality. Constructing and operating a business necessitates collective effort, and they constitute my invaluable support network. To my team, I extend my heartfelt gratitude.
