Meet Via Li | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Via Li and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Via, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As an artist, I have pursued a creative career driven by my passion for expressing myself through art. I have been in love with art since childhood, and I have continued to paint and draw throughout my life. The feeling of playing with lines and paint on canvas, coupled with the inspiring experiences of creating, are what I truly enjoy about being an artist.
For me, art has been a medium that allows me to communicate my thoughts and emotions in a way that words alone cannot. Art has the power to transcend language and cultural barriers, making it a universal language that anyone can understand and appreciate. This is what inspires me to create and what drives my passion for my artistic career.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My art is heavily influenced by my experiences as a woman and the challenges that I have faced in my life. I am passionate about exploring the emotions and struggles that women face every day and using my art to shed light on these issues. Through my work, I hope to create a space where women can feel seen and heard, and where we can start to drive change.
One of the things that sets me apart from other artists is my focus on emotions and the human experience. While many artists focus on visual elements or storytelling, I am more interested in exploring the feelings and experiences that make us human. I believe that by capturing these emotions in my art, I can create a connection with the viewer that goes beyond words.
Getting to where I am today professionally was not easy. It took a lot of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. There were times when I faced rejection and struggled to find my voice as an artist, but I never gave up. I kept pushing myself to improve, to experiment with new techniques, and to explore new themes and ideas.
Along the way, I have learned many valuable lessons. One of the most important is the importance of being true to myself as an artist. It can be tempting to try to emulate other artists or to create art that we think will sell, but I have found that the most rewarding work comes from staying true to my own vision and my own voice.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I am passionate about using art to create change. I believe that art has the power to move people, to spark conversations, and to drive progress. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to think critically about the world around them and to take action to create a better future.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Atlanta for a week and they were interested in art, I would take them to the High Museum of Art, which has an impressive collection of American and European art, as well as exhibitions featuring contemporary artists. We would also explore the Atlanta BeltLine, where we could see murals and street art created by local and international artists. Additionally, we would visit the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, which includes the Ebenezer Baptist Church where King preached and the King Center, a museum dedicated to his life and legacy. Finally, we would take a street art tour with Atlanta Street Art Map to see some of the city’s best and most vibrant murals and public art installations.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am grateful for the encouragement that I have received from my professor Gregory Eltringham at SCAD, who played a big role in shaping me into the artist that I am today. My good friend Nancy Miller has also been an unwavering source of encouragement and support throughout my artistic journey. The vibrant artistic community that I am a part of has been invaluable in helping me stay inspired. I am incredibly grateful for the presence of these amazing people in my life, who believed in my potential as an artist and gave me the confidence to pursue my passion professionally.
