We had the good fortune of connecting with Vernon Alford III and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vernon, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
The latest book I read was “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. I really enjoyed this book because it provides a different perspective on ways to achieve your goals and how to improve one’s self-discipline. The success you see from others didn’t happen overnight. The tiny decisions you make will impact the behavior you want to achieve or overcome. It’s the small steps with consistency, execution and belief that sets the foundation to reaching your desired outcome.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

During the worldwide pandemic in 2020, video production became a necessity to keep up with the demand to connect virtually. Prior to the pandemic, I was filming my sister, Brooke Alford, The Artist of the Violin at one of her concerts. I had a young woman ask me if I could film a birthday party. At the time, I was literally just starting out filming as a way to help with video content and didn’t even consider taking on clients at the time. She observed how I was capturing the night and was interested in pursuing my services. I turned down the opportunity because I didn’t feel ready at that moment.

After officially starting the business, I’ve learned that there is no perfect time to pursue opportunities and that they don’t fall in your lap. You have to take a leap of faith quickly and make it happen. While planning is vital, you must be able to execute, deliver and be open to new ideas in any industry.

When it comes to producing content, V-Smooth productions doesn’t just shoot videos. We want the audience of each client to understand their unique story and purpose for what they do while keeping it vividly smooth.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting in the area, I would take them to Ponce City Market in midtown for a variety of food options. If they like Mexican or seafood, I would suggest Tacos & Tequilas Mexican Grill, La Parilla, or Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. For sight-seeing, I would have them visit the historic Auburn Avenue MLK Center and The African American Museum. For the nightlife, they have to check out Peter’s Street and Buckhead.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I would like to give thanks to God and my family. My mom, Dell Alford, has instilled in me to always treat people right, be optimistic, do your best and to always keep a positive mindset. My dad, Dr. Vernon R. Alford Jr. was my rock. He passed away in 2020 due to gastrointestinal cancer.

Although he is no longer with us, his teachings and sayings stick with me. “If you start something, finish it.” This saying allowed me to attend Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. I later transferred my sophomore year to the unsinkable Albany State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management.

My sister, Brooke Alford, The Artist of the Violin who is an international recording artist, helped me develop my videography skills to launch V-Smooth Productions. My other sister Mia Fearon, who is a professional clarinetist and music specialist has influenced me through keeping me focused and on track with my aspirations along the way. With her being my older sister, she has always been a helping hand with music or advice. I grew up in a family that was involved in the performing arts which inspired me to play the French Horn in middle school and through college.
