We had the good fortune of connecting with Vernita Gage and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vernita, where are you from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born and raised in Sacramento, ca. Raised in a family that di nothing but hair.. hair is how my mom and auntys provided for us one of my favorite aunty taught at sac city in sacramento for decades.. hair is in me it is my culture. It is my life; my soul speaks hair. Ever since the young age of 12 i found myself loving to do hair.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m excited because I’m taking a chance at life to build something my children can be proud of and that will continue to provide beauty for everyone these hands touch. I love to tell my clients, “let your hair do the talking”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m currently living in chico for the past five years, so I would take them out for a nice walk in a park and site see and just enjoy downtown with some drinks and food and music.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank god and my family for their endless support. Most importantly, my black king Isaiah (black Zeek) kirk loves you hubby.
