We had the good fortune of connecting with Venus Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Venus, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My end goal is to be a successful working actor. Successful to me doesn’t mean being famous with flashing cameras everywhere I go. Success would mean being able to do what I love for a living. Being able to go to work and enjoy every minute while also being able to fully support my family with that career. For me, at the end of my career as an actor, I would like to look back at the body of work that I have done and feel a sense of fulfilment and pride. Pride in the storytelling that I got to be a part of, proud of the performances that I was able to give and fulfilment knowing that I had accomplished a dream that I had had since I was 8 years old.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider myself an artist and not just an actor because I am also a writer. I began writing at a very early age. I would write lyrics to songs and write poems. I put that aside as well as my dream of acting when I decided to raise a family. But now that I am pursuing acting and realising that it’s not enough to audition and wait to book that gig I wanted to create my own content. So, I have taken some writing classes and just recently, along with two of my tribe members, have completed writing my first web series. I am also working on a script which I am hoping will be a TV pilot and I am finalising the first book in a children’s series I have created based on my two youngest daughters. The journey has not been easy. This career definitely is not for anyone who is not used to hearing the word “no” because you get auditions and usually never hear anything back. If you’re lucky you get a callback, pinned, first refusal and best of all “BOOKED”. But, mostly, nothing. But giving up is not an option. I will continue putting the work in by going to those acting classes, reading sides everyday, writing and creating. I have learned that anything in life worth having is worth the pursuit. I know that I will have the career that I dreamed of: being a success actor, a successful storyteller.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I honestly don’t get out too much but one of my favorite places to dine in Atlanta is Eclipse Di Luna, so that would definitely be on the list for dining and drinks. I also love shopping in Lenox Square, nothing like a little retail therapy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Wow, there are so many out there that have been a part of this journey that I am on from audition coaches who also became mentors like veteran actors Gary Grubbs and James Dumont to acting teachers like Tim Phillips and the late Jack Turnbull. While it’s great having people who have been in and understands the business it is also great to have in your corner people who are also on the same journey as you, your tribe! My tribe consists of 4 other actors that are auditioning and putting the work in, Vanessa, Debbie, Brad and Lisa. We have a chat group and we support each other by listening when someone needs to vent after not booking a job or cheering each other on during our triumphs,
