We had the good fortune of connecting with Venus Austin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Venus, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think that risk is an important element in growing in your life or career. Creating BLANKWardrobe was a big risk in my life and career because I made a lot of sacrifices (and continue to do so) to nurture and grow it. The risks and the initial sacrifices have allowed me to continue to grow my brand and refine it to make it better. Although risks can be negative, it is important to make strategic risks that have the potential to have a positive impact on your life or career.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
BLANKWardrobe is a women’s apparel brand that specializes in versatile and classic wardrobe staples that you can use to build or enhance your current wardrobe. We aim to make women feel confident and unapologetic in their life’s journey through feeling confident in their style choices and the inspiration that they can find through the content that we create. Creating BLANKWardrobe has been one of the most rewarding things that I have done so far in my life. The journey has not been easy, but it’s definitely been worth it. One of the things that I credit for my success is my ability to be nimble. I think that as an entrepreneur being able to pivot quickly and adjust as needed is important because of how much things can change. Entrepreneurship requires you to experiment with different things and that requires a natural curiosity that never really goes away. Although, I’ve always been flexible, nimble, and curious, building my business has made me really have to lean into these personality traits.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area for about an week and I wanted to show them the best time ever I’d start them out with hanging on the West Side. We’d have drinks and tapas at Barcelona and definitely do brunch at Cultivate. We’d head to The Buckhead Shops to shop and Piedmont Park to enjoy the weather. For rooftop vibes, I’d want to take them to Whiskey Blue and Del Friscos. We’d probably spend most of our time in Buckhead, Midtown, and on the West Side for sure.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, Alex of F&W Style. She’s been so supportive from the very beginning and she’s absolutely killing it with her brand. Super proud of her continued growth. Can’t wait to see what she does next!
