We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Calloway and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want the kindness, compassion, and love I’ve shown to others to be remembered for generations to come. For me, style is an outward expression of my inner self and I use it to encourage and promote individuality, self worth, and confidence for those who I am blessed to have around me. I want the way I express myself to empower and positively influence others to become the best version of themselves.

What should our readers know about your business?
Fashion is a way to help us express ourselves without having to speak. The clothes you wear give people a preview of your personality. There aren’t any rules to fashion in my opinion. Expensive clothes don’t amount to being fashionable! it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it. Fashion doesn’t have a price tag. Fashion is not static, it’s a mood – it’s ever changing. I was inspired by my late father who told me to always take pride in “ your look “ and that there’s no such thing as overdressed. I took this advice as a blueprint, or better yet a code. If an individual is interested in the fashion industry, it takes patience and the willingness to learn. Study! Study! Study! You will need to educate yourself daily in which I’ve dedicated myself doing constantly with books, online research, and/or analyzing other stylists. Networking is also a big component to my success. Being consistent in what you’re doing even when no ones watching. Starting is the easy part of the process, but maintaining and being diverse is the challenging yet rewarding aspect of this lifestyle. Remember your purpose for starting and use that energy to fuel your motivation to continue creating. My brand is to help those to become more confident in what they wear and to be comfortable in their style.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a Native Washingtonian, living in DC is great! First, what’s life without wine ? District Winery is a great place to go. Also, I would take you to all the lively spots such as Georgetown, U-Street, Adams Morgan and Hst which has it all such as music, shopping, food, art, etc. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I would like to give honor to God, who is the head of my life and makes all things possible. I would like to give a shoutout to Chi llochi for seeing my potential and recommending me. My family & friends for always pushing and supporting me in everything I do. Last but not least, I would like to to thank myself for believing in me and pursuing my goals.
