We had the good fortune of connecting with Usama Yaqoob and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Usama, how does your business help the community?
This is a great question! So some of our core values as a family and especially as a family owned business are to be honest, fair, have good business ethics, and to give back to those who give to us. I can’t claim that we’re beneficial to the world as we’re not on that type of scale (yet). However, to our local communities we work with several business owners in our own lives all from relationships we’ve made through being your local jewelers. From things like house maintenance, car maintenance, eating at certain restaurants, we try to support the same local people in our community who come and support us. Beyond that, as Muslims we have a pillar in our faith called Zakat, which is giving charity to the needy yearly (approx 2.5% of your assets) – we strictly provide back to the communities and support those who are in need. We actually give up to 20% of our yearly profits back in donations to the community and other philanthropic endeavors around the world.

What should our readers know about your business?
I believe what sets us apart from others in today’s world is our nature and attention to detail and value in relationships. Most of my clients have seen me since I was 18 years old and so they’ve seen me literally grow in front of their eyes. In today’s world, the jewelry industry is very public and open and more or less anyone can source and sell the same goods. We as a business are one of a very few number of jewelers are fully vertically integrated in our business in that we manufacture, wholesale, and retail all our own items. Most jewelers run off credit or loans on items whereas we own every piece of jewelry ourselves, and when you actually own the stock – you make the sales. I don’t think I’ve necessarily made it to the level I want to in the jewelry industry yet, but even getting to this point has not been easy. There was a lot of time sacrificed, a lot of friendships sacrificed, and I still feel I missed out on so many moments in my early/mid 20s that I’ll never get back, however the vision is much larger than that and I’ve accepted that I had to lose that time and those moments to reach this point. It’s never been easy, but it was again a lot of support from friends and family, and building a stronger relationship with God so a lot of praying and asking for guidance and patience.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Haha honestly I don’t have much of an idea myself because I’m always working.
If I have a guest coming for a week, we’d hit all the staple tourist spots like the Coke Factory, Aquarium, High Museum, we’d probably hit the Beltline and Atlantic Station, go hang out around Georgia Tech campus. There’s so many food places but 2 of my favorites are Rreal Tacos and Fudo so those are a definitive must. Go to a Hawks/Braves game, and also spend a lot of time OTP because a lot of the real gems of Atlanta are actually in metro-Atlanta.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, all thanks is to God. Without Him there would be nothing.
Secondarily, I always say this – it’s a big shoutout to my Mom, she has been my #1 supporter and protector since I was a child. My family plays a huge role in my life and values, so of course my Dad, Sisters, and extended family. All my close friends and acquaintances who supported my wins in life, no matter how big or small. & Big shoutout to all the haters who hated me and keep hating until this day, I don’t do it to prove anything to them but you know you’re doing something right when you’ve got haters haha.
