We had the good fortune of connecting with Urcia Pearson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Urcia, do you have any interesting experiences or advice related to making friends as an adult?
As a business owner, sometimes it’s natural to think any new friendships formed aren’t genuine. That people attach themselves to you for self interest and to propel their own agenda. Of course this isn’t always the case and if you approach it this way, wether personal or business, you could be missing out on building lasting valuable relationships. My advice would be to look for similarities in a person, their motivation…is it easy to carry on a conversation? Is the conversation uplifting and progressive, can you learn from them? These are characteristics I look for when forming new friendships.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been wardrobe styling for more than 16 years. From photoshoots, private client wardrobe edits, personal shopping, clothing design, alterations and wardrobe supervising…I’ve done it all. My most recent works have been on film sets as a wardrobe supervisor and costumer. My skillset is very unique. Nowadays you have to be more than just a one trick pony, you have to be able to multi-task and be able to perform different roles. My longevity in the business is due to having a variety of skills sets. I am a graphic designer, I do alterations and I have a professional attitude and accumen which comes from my many years working in corporate America as a Project Manager. Being in a creative space, having wardrobe assistants and deligating tasks to have a successful day on a movie set is no easy work, my Project Managing skills play a huge role daily. Also professionalism, knowing how to carry on conversations and behaving in an acceptable manner when dealing with Execs, producers and actors is very important.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I know the likely choice would be somewhere in the City. I’m a suburbanite tho, so Im gonna start with my town and work my way down to Atlanta lol. We would start breakfast at The Baking Grounds in Buford, they also have the best desserts. Then Id take her to get her nails done by Tracy at Tina’s Nails off of Sugarloaf Parkway. I’d take her to Sugarloaf Mills for some high fashion discounts at Off Saks and Nieman Marcus Last Call. We’d then make our way to the City and stop at The One sushi in Brookhaven for lunch. We’d then go the Shops at Buckhead for some more shopping…later Id take her to Parlon Den for dancing, my friend DJ Natural spins there. we’d make our way back up to the suburbs and end the night at Vice Lounge in Suwanee with drinks, tapas and afrobeats.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout-out is to anyone that I have ever worked with that has given me the opportunity to do what I love and left a positive lasting experience.
