We had the good fortune of connecting with Unnati Patel, MPH and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Unnati, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I became a mom through IVF in 2017, I didn’t know what to expect. Mom guilt took over, and I decided to stay at home instead of working. In 2019, I had my second child through IVF, and then the pandemic happened. It felt like one thing after another, and being a mom became challenging. It wasn’t easy at all.
One big challenge was my daughter’s sleep. So, I used my research skills and experience to learn about how kids sleep. I applied what I learned to improve her sleep and help my son sleep well too. Can you believe that by the time he was 2 months old, he was sleeping for 7 to 8 hours at a time? He still sleeps great even now that he’s 3 years old. I hope it continues!
I started helping my family and friends with their kids’ sleep too. Then, a friend suggested that I do it as a job. Since we couldn’t go out much due to the pandemic, I had a lot of free time. So, I decided to enroll in a program to learn even more. It only took me 24 hours to sign up!
In April 2021, I proudly launched Nested to Rested Sleep Consulting, LLC, embarking on a journey to help countless families achieve well-rested days and thrive in parenthood. Every day, my passion for pediatric sleep and my genuine desire to serve families come to life. I actually find joy in “going to work.” I get to serve families through my VIP 1:1 services where they work directly with me, courses, guides, and other DIY offerings.
What should our readers know about your business?
A mom’s naptime hustle is a real deal. Those precious moments when the little ones are asleep can be incredibly productive. Instead of spending that time cleaning or cooking, I chose to dedicate it to my work. It meant making sacrifices like staying up late into the night, saying no to fun plans on weekends, and even missing out on quality time with my family. That was my life for a long time.
Over the 2 years, I have learned to set boundaries, established working hours for myself, and get a better grasp on the whole work-life balance.
I now have an amazing team supporting me at Nested to Rested Sleep Consulting. Thanks to their help, I no longer have to make those sacrifices. Instead, I can focus on my clients, my family, and taking care of my own health.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta has so much to offer when it comes to great restaurants, places to see, and your pick of attractions that can keep the littles busy for hours.
Our go-to place to eat is always Mexican– Taqueria Del Sol. They have the best EVERYTHING! Some other places we usually go to with people visiting us are food halls such as Ponce City Market, Works, and Krog St. They have tons of restaurants to choose from and activities to keep the kids entertained.
For a fancy date night, our go-to place is always St. Cecilia. They have the best drinks, wine selections, and desserts– all things we love.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I first thought about starting my own business, I had no idea where to begin. I didn’t know how to get those initial families to trust and hire me, or if I was following all the legal requirements correctly. It was all so overwhelming.
But then something wonderful happened—I came across Becca Campbell, a pediatric sleep consultant who had launched The Sleep Sorority. This is a special group that other pediatric sleep consultants can join. It provides education, support, and the necessary tools to confidently and successfully start their pediatric sleep businesses.
I feel incredibly lucky to have crossed paths with Becca and discovered The Sleep Sorority. Their guidance and support have been invaluable to me as I navigated the early stages of my business. The community I found within this group is truly priceless. As the name suggests– it’s more about the sisterhood rather than the competition.
