We had the good fortune of connecting with Tymisha Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tymisha, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am originally from El Paso, Texas. Born and raised there for the first 20 years of my life. When I was six years old, my mother was killed. My maternal grandmother and great- grandmother raised me along with an entire community of folks. With love, understanding, compassion and an adventurous spirit, they all taught me that my life didn’t end with a murder. No one’s life is easy, and that I am still destined for greatness. From EPT, I moved to the mecca that was Orlando, Florida after the 20th birthday. (It was to be the next Hollywood) I jumped right in and did as much as I could, because I wasn’t taught any differently. I knew I was the thing missing in these events or “productions.”
I still feel this way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a multi-faceted performer. A triple threat, if you will. When I walk into a room, you would already know that I am not a “basic” person.
A secret weapon of mine, I am older than I look, so I get underestimated. Then I can go in and destroy the competition. And make everyone step-up their game.
Being a small Black woman, it was not easy getting roles or castings. I had to come in and make sure they could see that a POC ,could the job just as well as my counterparts.
I learned to be a communicator. Physically, mentally and subtly.
All of my journey has lead me to create a spectacular show. A one-woman show that travels around the world. And That one day I can offer the show to the world, and through the eyes of other Black women.
There aren’t to many one-woman shows out there that have a black woman as a captivating lead, my show provides that opportunity.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When most people think of Orlando, they think Theme Parks…. But not me. (unless requested) The City beautiful has plenty of cool spots to check out.
There would be a plenty of beaches to choose from, all within an hours reach. There’s New Smyrna Beach on the coast, or Clearwater Beach, which is near St Pete in Tampa. Maybe take a couple days out one of those ways, but when we get back to O-town, Downtown is the spot to rome. Santiago’s Bodega is a must-Brunch or happy hour. Kres Steakhouse is delish!! Stops into Southern Nights and the Milk District have a great little hub of community. Food truck bazaars pop-up all over, so food is taken care of. Keke’s cafe brings the easy brunch, while the Hammered Lamb brings a great drag brunch and the best bloody mary bar in Orlando. Winter Garden’s downtown is about 30 minutes away Main House Market is tops out there, and right around the corner from there, The Winter Garden Playhouse, will have a top selling show for sure. My bestie Blue Star, has her finger on the pulse of the city, So she will definitely be our tour guide.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
