We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Roach and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Growing up I was always scared to take risks. Going into my last job I kind of settled and just told myself I’d take it as far as I could take it bc I was told I had a good future there. 4 1/2 years later I got tired of dealing with the company – I worked two jobs – the main one I was doing HVAC & the other was personal training. It wasn’t until February that I decided that I was going to take a risk and do what I love for a living. I took a temporary pay cut, and my hours got longer because I want to spend as much time as I can building my brand. Through the struggling to make ends meet, the long hours – I still love doing what I do & can’t wait to see where it puts me 6 months from now

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a certified personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach. Growing up I never seen this being something I would get into. I sat around and played video games until late at night, during the day I’d play basketball & never really had interest in working out or training people for that matter. I was always “underweight” in high school I was 5’10” 130lbs and knew I wanted to put weight on – just never really made it happen. I had a best friend and my brother who had an underground mma thing going – that’s where I really started to focus. My friend went to the navy and got shipped to Guam – he done Muay Thai over there and had a training partner go to the ufc… at that moment I knew I wanted to get serious – so I hit the gym started doing boxing & Muay Thai – hit the weights and put on 30lbs in a year and a half… I seen how good I felt and how happy I was & that’s when I decided I wanted to help people reach their goals and help people fall in love with themselves. I’ve only been doing personal training for about 4 months and have been certified about a year & it’s definitely something where clients have built up slowly – but I get more one on one with clients and have built amazing relationships with some amazing people. The biggest thing for me was knowing no matter how hard times got – I couldn’t give up on myself – if I want to succeed I have to give it everything that I can give it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hands down we would spend majority of that time in the gym. If we wouldnt be lifting weights we would be sparring, and doing pad work drills. That’s literally our life – I love weight training but sparring is by far the most fun I can have in a single activity. Honestly my best friend probably knows of more spots outside of the gym than I do – I’ve always been an inside the house kind of person. I don’t really venture outside of what I know too much. I do enjoy hiking and have always wanted to go to Tallulah Gorge though!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom for sure. I’ve fought through a lot in my life & she’s been the most consistent & supportive person. I’ve done photography, music, and personal training and no matter what it was she was right behind me always bragging, telling people how talented I am, and really pushing for me to bring my dreams to reality. A lot of people tried to force plan b or tell me that I can’t take risks & it’s because we’re all so caught up in being comfortable and living the normal life – she’s the outlier – the one that wants me to take those risks and accomplish everything I have set for myself.
