We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Jackson-Price and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
This question I asked myself a lot in the beginning of my and her and her team and career. I started off doing stand-up comedy around 2008 and early my career of course doing bars and nightclubs and small open mics and things like that you really start getting excited about the opportunities and all the things you’re learning as you’re performing. But there was a point where I performed in this bar in Florida and I was called the N-word and derogatory names during my whole set. From the time I got on stage till the time I said good night was about 10 minutes and when I heard those names thrown at me and the people in the audience being so disgusting part of me said is this what I really want to do? Is this worth fighting through and I strong enough to do this? But then I also realized am I going to let these people win and dictate how I live out my dream and how I pursue it? And after I asked myself that question I knew this was what I wanted to do and ultimately led me to my voice over career which has been very successful and amazing. I think about that moment when I was on stage and how my life could’ve been if I gave up and let those disgusting audience members win but I’m glad I didn’t let them win because I wouldn’t have had an continue to have the great career that I have now. I also love to share that story with people who are on the fence about if they will succeed or if they won’t, if it’s really meant for them or if it’s not, or simply if they just have the energy to keep going. And I tell people your heart will tell you which way it wants to go but you have to believe in yourself more than you believe in others. You have to fight through so many things and overcome so many obstacles to get to where you need to be no matter if it’s on a high level or low level. But if you give up you’ll never know the greatness that’s ahead of you. Keep going for yourself because all the hard work that you put in whatever your dreamers you owe it to yourself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been a professional voice actor since 2014 and previously I was a standup comedian. I started off with some friends and writing material and we decided to hit the stage and test it out. But once I felt the energy of the lights and the microphone in the audience I knew that this was something that I wanted to pursue long-term if not forever. Comedy then lead into voice acting and that is currently what I do now. I’ve worked with some amazing companies from Amazon, Puma, Netflix, Disney, IHeart Radio, Spotify, ESPN and many other companies here in the states and overseas. What I’ve learned in this entertainment industry is that patience is what we all need. Not everything is going to be given or handed to you and sometimes you have to wait for your opportunity or your moment. But you always have to stay ready for whenever that moment comes. I’ve learned to always be humble, take advice, take criticism, and never let anyone dictate or determine my dream in any way shape or form. I can do voice impressions which always are enjoyable to do when I get to bring a script for life with a certain character and seeing my children get into the voice acting industry is fun for me to see them enjoy it. By no means is this an easy journey but it is all worth it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am in Central Florida and there are so many great places that you can visit and enjoy yourself at. Of course there’s Disney, Universal Studios, Seaworld and major parks but there’s so much to the Orlando and Central Florida area that people don’t know about. And we are famous for beaches so a day at the beach and seeing our beautiful sunsets and eating our beach food is a must. We have amazing trails and natural springs that are amazing to lounge and swim in and I love visiting food truck events in Orlando.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout out to all the people who gave me a chance in the beginning when I didn’t have an official demo, I didn’t have a studio, and I didn’t have the experience. Those who saw more in me than I saw in myself this is for you and everything that I do from here on out everyone’s in my heart and everyone is in a chapter of my book that my life writes. ’m blessed to have those people that I can say thank you for everything.
