We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Berry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want people to remember as someone who always focused on my passions. No matter what im always looking for ways to improve on what motivates me to get up in the morning. Along with this, I would like people to remember me as someone who was always willing to take a shot at something.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a musician and composer. With my playing I am always looking for new ways to express myself musically. So with this, I am play and compose music within any genre, ranging from rock and blues, to jazz and classical music. For me studying the greats and creating my own works always excites me to continue to write and to discover what can be done with sound and music. Where I am at currently has been the result of connecting with other creatives and taking as many creative opportunities that I can handle. From this standpoint the main challenge was dealing with managing different projects, as well as the failures that could result from taking certain opportunities. The main lessons I have learned are to always find ways to overcome failures and adversities and to always focus and refine your craft. I would like the world to know that I always strive to aim for the highest possible goals that I think can be reached.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots in ATL are Little 5 Points and Downtown Decatur. Between these two places, there are great number of places that have great places to both eat and drink. For me, I think The Vortex in L5P would be a go to spot for me. Along with this, I would love to introduce someone to a number of the used book stores that I love to visit in ATL. Book Nook and Atlanta Vintage Books are two of my favorite used book stores.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For me I would like to give a shout out to all of the greats who have and continue to both motive and inspire me on a daily basis. There are hundreds of names, but to name a few, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Bach, Robert Johnson, Bob Dylan, Duke Ellington, Son House, Jack White, and Wes Montgomery amount many others. Along with these, the people who are willing to listen to what I create and to at least give some feedback on what I do will always deserve some credit for what I do in life.
