We had the good fortune of connecting with Ty Norwood Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ty, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risks are very necessary especially in terms of an individuals growth. Risk is a big part of my career as an actor! Moving to Atlanta from Philadelphia was not an easy decision and I tried to calculate everything as much as I could but truthfully you’re never 100 percent ready. Sometimes you just have to jump. You’ll either fly or hit the ground either way you’re already doing something many can’t say they’re willing to do.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what mostly sets me apart from other actors especially at this point in my career is that I don’t settle for any role even in desperation. I take my real life experience and apply them to my roles. If I can’t connect with them I leave them alone and not force it. Im most proud of Sheet Music, it won best short film in two different festivals, I had to dig deep for the role and it has a beautiful message that everyone can learn from. Do what speaks to you. Hard work, patience, and perseverance got me this far. My biggest lesson I learned on this journey is that it’s not all about me. It takes a village. I want the world to know that anyone can do it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I haven’t been living her long but I would definitely take them to the museums and midtown. Probably my favorite areas so far. We would eat all types of foods especially Mexican and Asian.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My girlfriend Shareema deserves infinite shoutouts. She was the first person I talked to before committing to this journey and has been with me from day one supporting me. With every success and failure she made sure to remind to keep going and always stay humble. It’s not easy letting a person go out and do something that makes them happy especially when nobody knows the outcome. It’s powerful and speaks volumes about that person’s character.
