We had the good fortune of connecting with Twin Jude and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Twin, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The biggest risks I’ve ever taken have led to the most valuable components of where my career is at today. If I had never taken the leap of faith and chosen to believe in myself above everything else, there wouldn’t have been nearly as much for me to hold on to when times got tough. The voice inside my head that has told me to keep going along the many ups and downs I’ve encountered would probably have told me to quit and be more “logical” at times when my back was against the wall. It was the decision to take the risk and the reasons I had to do so that I’ve repeatedly to leaned on. I believe that without taking a risk, nothing worthwhile is ever accomplished.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At a very young age, I was influenced by The Beatles and learned to play piano and guitar before I ever thought about making hip hop music. As I grew and became influenced by the different cultures and environments I found myself in, it reflected on my musical interests. This led to me eventually starting to release hip hop music in my low 20’s, but I never stopped writing and performing material with a guitar in my hands. As I’ve matured as an artist, the music I create has gradually shifted to a place that is more balanced between both my alternative and hip hop influences. At this point in time, you can hear more guitar starting to be implemented. However, the sounds that will truly set me apart remain on the horizon and these are the songs I’m most excited about. I’ve seen some challenging scenarios along the way. Certain people and situations have held me back at times from displaying everything that I’ve wanted, but I’ve found that the will and ability to simply persevere and stay standing proves to be more powerful than the obstacles as they come and go. There are no stories of any successful artist or person who hasn’t faced hardships. It’s all part of a necessary process. That is important to remember.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I took you to where I grew up on the coast of Connecticut, you might be surprised by how much there really is to do while getting an inside look at my upbringing. A lot of my time was spent sailing near Long Island Sound or hanging out on the beach when I was younger and it shaped a big part of my personality. Connecticut is also right in the middle of a cluster of large cities such as New York, Boston and Providence. Anything going on in those cities is always close enough to get to which has benefitted my career as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There have been various individuals who have either helped me or have created obstacles for me. A lot of the obstacles I’ve faced have made me stronger and wiser. In some cases, working through those obstacles have led me to some of the people who have helped me the most along the way. Aneesah Bray and Ace Wonder have helped manage me out of some tough spots. Musically, my friends who go by the names of Prophet and Dutch Revz have produced some great music for me and have helped bring my creative ideas to life.
