We had the good fortune of connecting with Tucorey Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tucorey, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I venture into the hair industry as a side hustle. I’d never thought I would’ve grown a passion for making wigs & doing hair. I enjoy doing hair because I get to make people feel beautiful my own unique way, and not only do I get to come up with my own master pieces but have clients that bring me creative ideas as well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I venture into the hair industry as a side hustle. I’d never thought I would’ve grown a passion for making wigs & doing hair. I enjoy doing hair because I get to make people feel beautiful my own unique way, and not only do I get to come up with my own master pieces but have clients that bring me creative ideas as well.

I’m extremely proud of how far I came in my business because 3 years ago I didn’t know nothing about hair, I barely even knew how to braid. I ended up in the hair industry because my beautician was looking for a hair assistant and since I’ll just be prepping the clients I didn’t mind making the extra cash. What I thought should’ve been a simple job was very complex in the beginning coming from someone who didn’t even know how to do their own hair. I struggled with braiding and parting for a long time because I learned that neat foundation is the key to a nice hairstyle and I wanted to make sure I slay my clients (on top of the fact I worked with perfectionist so I had to do everything the best to my ability). After practicing my braiding on mannequins that’s when I learned how to sew and fell in love with making wigs on mannequins. I fell in love with making wigs because they’re cute, long lasting and painless. What makes my wig different from everybody else is that it fits snug without all the extra accessories inside, such as bands and combs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start my best friend vacation off by letting her settle in her room at The “W” hotel downtown. If she’s hungry I have a list of restaurants we can try throughout the week such as, Phlavz, Giordano‘s, Low Country, Famous Dave’s or etc. As for entertainment we can hit up the Escape Room, Dave-N-Busters or even go bowling. I’d take her site seeing downtown through Millennial park, bar hopping through oak park and give her a tour of our west Chicago.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A special thanks would go out to all my clients that believed in me when I couldn’t believed in myself m, pushing me to try styles im not comfortable doing and actually turning out to be quite good at it.. I appreciate them for the extra push and faith in me and I didn’t have in myself.
