Meet Trish Ousman | Singer/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Trish Ousman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trish, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always had a passion for singing, and being able to share my music with the world just felt right. The connection that someone can make through their songs and the relatability of those songs is something I’ve always admired. I could be going through something and write a song about it, and somewhere else, someone could listen to that song and feel a completely different connection to it. Music is one of those things that helps and inspires people in their daily lives, so if I could be a part of that, I think my goal would be fulfilled.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being from Trinidad and having music be a part of my everyday life is one of the things I believe sets me apart. Music in the Caribbean is very different from music in the States, and I love and appreciate both. I started off by posting singing covers on TikTok, and eventually, they gained some traction and began going viral around 2019. From then on, I kept up with posting and eventually branched out into doing lives as well. I felt like this was a crucial part of my music career, as it allowed fans to get to know me better and ask questions or request songs in real time. With time, I started making my own music and released my first song, Psychopath, followed by With a Smile, and then my most recent song, Love. The road to where I am today hasn’t been easy, and I’ve thought about giving up more times than I can count, but I realized that with consistency, hard work, dedication, and time, everything will eventually fall into place.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the city life, so ideally we’d hang out around there. Can’t say I’m the biggest breakfast lover, but breakfast at Café Intermezzo is a must! Hopefully, it’s a beautiful sunny day, because then we’d need to walk the BeltLine for a bit, maybe grab some Jeni’s Ice Cream (darkest chocolate in a waffle bowl is the only acceptable answer) and Gus’s dumplings. If it’s raining, then I’d definitely suggest Hawkers instead. At this point, it’s already been a good day, but to make it a great day, I’d end the night in downtown Alpharetta with some drinks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The first person that comes to mind is my mom. I don’t think there was ever a moment in life when I didn’t have her full support when it came to chasing my dreams. She always instilled in me to believe that nothing is impossible if you give it your all and have faith. I also want to give a shoutout to my friends, family, and everyone on my team for believing in me so much that I no longer see my singing career as an “if,” but rather as a “when.”
