We had the good fortune of connecting with Trinity Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trinity, why did you pursue a creative career?
I realized I loved drawing and painting in 8th grade. In highschool I took art and continued making art outside of school. During this time I started watching anime and developed a love for animation and storytelling. This lead me to writing and becoming interested in film making. I even combined my paintings with fashion and started my clothing line Kawaii By Trinity. Over time I realized that art is not limited to a painting on a canvas. I could use film, animation, painting, writing and fashion to spread a message. During high school I developed a relationship with God. I realized that God is someone who wants to love, talk with, help, comfort, and support me. I was always a Christian and claimed to believe in him but I didn’t know him. You can’t claim to be in a relationship with someone yet not text, call, or see them. Developing a relationship with God brought purpose, adventure, peace, freedom and stability in my life. I dedicated my gifts of creativity to Him to show others what a life with him looks like and how to obtain it. I am going into my junior year at Savannah College of Art and Design majoring in animation and minoring in film. I want to learn how to use visual media and show people what that is like in various anime series, tv shows and film. I believe it’s easier to understand something when you can see it.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My art is not confined into one category which makes it unique. My artistry is in drawings, paintings, graphic designs, animations, films, my clothing brand, photography, and song writing. Being able to expand my art beyond a canvas and explore other categories is exciting. Trying other categories is what lead to me creating my clothing brand Kawaii By Trinity. I merged fashion and fine art by printing my paintings on clothes. Going into something with no experience can be intimidating but you have to start somewhere. I watched YouTube videos on what I needed to start a clothing brand. I learned I need an LLC trademarking, website, manufactures, and a business bank account. I educated myself on what these things were and where to go to get it. I realized starting a business is not hard and began the process of launching my brand. The hard part was not starting my business but being motivated to finish the process. Along the way I became unmotivated and didn’t want to work on it some days. God and the people around me encouraged me to continue going. Ounce I overcame that mental battle and persevered, I launched my business on November 6. 2020. I learned that your dreams are obtainable and you have to be willing to learn and work to achieves them. Just go for it ! Kawaii By Trinity is here today because I decided to take action on a dream I had. I want the world to know my brand when they see it. Kawaii By Trinity is eye catching and unique. You are going to be asked where you Got your tee or hoodie from if you are wearing Kawaii By Trinity. Each design is made from a painting by me. Even the logo was hand painted. If you are looking to stand out Kawaii By Trinity is the brand to wear. I also want people to be inspired by my story and encouraged to take action on their dream.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you are looking for a good time Atlanta is the place to go. For food I love going to thrill, yuka, chef robs, egg harbor cafe, tastee spoon, El Azteca, juicy crab, pounce city market, colony square, the cookout, and Waffle House. Exciting places to go are fam fam karaoke, Atlantic station, the Georgia aquarium, six flags, cascade, sparkles, studio movie grill, six flags, white water, Andrettis, top golf, river tubing, sky view Atlanta, little 5 points, Ponce city market, and Atlanta belt line. I go to these places often and always have a great time. Ounce I couldn’t get models for a photoshoot and decided to go to little 5 points and ask strangers to model. I found people who wanted to model and had a photoshoot with them. There are a lot of fun people in the Atlanta area who are willing and to help you create.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would be delusional and devious to claim I made it to where I am today without the help of others. My parents have always poured into my interest no matter what it was. It didn’t matter if it was a phase that only lasted a week. They would support me and encourage me to follow whatever I was passionate about. Their investments and encouraging words are apart of my foundation. I am thankful for the Morris family for mentoring me and teaching me about the film and music industry. The cheers from my biological family, church family and friends who root for me to win. The most important shout out goes to God for giving me the vision and people to bring the vision into fruition.
