We had the good fortune of connecting with Trey Roth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trey, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was ripped off on Craigslist…

I needed a laptop and found a guy willing to trade his for some old guitars.

He drove down from Nashville, I drove up from Atlanta, we met in Chattanooga.

Laptop looked good so I opened up my trunk, gave him my guitars, and we parted ways.

Got home, sat it down on the kitchen table, and marveled…it was my first Mac.

It was beautiful!

Then I noticed the battery was dying so I plugged it up…but nothing happened!

It had a short, so it needed a repair.

I tried to contact the guy, but I couldn’t reach him.

I was officially ripped off!

That’s when I thought there should be a trusted referral network.

Little did I know I would circle back around to that idea years later to do it myself!

What should our readers know about your business?
It took 10 years to reach product/market fit.

We’ve almost died as an organization countless times.

We’ve run out of money countless times.

We finally made something that worked after 4 years…then Facebook removed access to their API and we had to start all over again.

We’ve made every stereotypical mistake.

But two weeks prior to the 10-year anniversary of starting the company….we finally reach product/market fit…and in dramatic fashion!

We made one key shift that changed everything and it took off!

People now love Yaystack more than I ever imagine anyone ever could…myself included!

Words cannot express my joy and excitement for our present and future.

The 10-year anniversary was also actually my birthday.

Someone asked recently what I did to celebrate…

I told them that I worked all day, and that it was one of the best birthdays of my life!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would start with a tour of Trilith Studios where they film the Marvel movies.

(Definitely book a tour there sometime!)

We would have a Chipotle Mango Avocado Bowl at gusto!

Then take a spin in the Tesla Plaid Model X and wouldn’t dare go over the speed limit…

Then make some people’s day by dropping Yay Day Giveaways on Yaystack (like “Pokémon Go for gift cards & giveaways”) and watch their faces light up, totally elated when they claim them!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I don’t work for Chick-fil-A, but I do eat mor chikin, and know their fantastic corporate mission statement; “to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.”

Love that mission statement and to apply it to my own life and business!

I also have to give my wife, Ashley, a shoutout, who in 9th grade when we started dating would say “where there’s a Trey, there’s a way!”

She has supported me through a lot of ups and downs.

My 4 kids are incredibly entertaining creators and storytellers. So proud of them for so many reasons!

My parents are elite souls. If you met them, you’d immediately know what I mean!

In my business, I stand on the shoulders of giants. I would have to write an entire book on all the stories of support I’ve received from them.
