Meet Trenae’ Watson | CEO & Founder of TLW Consulting

We had the good fortune of connecting with Trenae’ Watson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Trenae’, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I officially launched my business, TLW Consulting, during COVID. After working over ten years in the workforce development field and assisting people on their career journey, I encountered more and more people dissatisfaction with traditional employment and a growing interest in entrepreneurship. Finding out how many were already doing some form of “business” but lacking the structure, really piqued my interest. It was clear, they were happier discussing their vision yet just needed some guidance. So I started doing research and even took a few entrepreneurship courses to better assist. It was through this process my passion grew for bringing others vision to reality. The idea of assisting individuals to obtain financial freedom and create generational wealth within their communities gave me a sense of purpose.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I believe what sets me apart is my background. Understanding both traditional employment and entrepreneurship, I am able to give advice based on the balance of both. Growing a business while working a traditional job takes creativity. Being creative and finding creative ways to grow while maintaining traditional employment. This is often taken for granted as many don’t realize how many sleepless nights are involved. Being strategic in your entrepreneurial goals are crucial to avoid burnout. Understanding what is working and what is not working. Looking to pivot when needed and seek help. I work with individuals, guiding them through the process to ensure that the business is not only structured properly but also flourishing. Providing accountability and strategic support throughout the process makes the difference!
In 2022 I quit my traditional job, I started law school full time and I became a full time entrepreneur. The model I used prior to quitting my job, proved to not be successful. I needed to pivot and shift my focus slightly to accommodate law school. I think I was able to overcome these challenges quickly because I am constantly evolving and evaluating my goals. With every step, I am strategically looking to see how this particular step aligns with my overall goal. Oftentimes thinking ten steps ahead, I am doing a risk assessment to think of every possible outcome of each move.
Life has shown me that even with proper planning, “life” can happen and shift every plan out of place. Being consistent and committed to achieving your goals has to be priority. This is not always easy, but looking back on 2023, I am probably most motivated by what didn’t work versus what did.
I am a living testament of not allowing society to place me or my business inside of a box. The sky is not the limit for me….and it shouldn’t be for you!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I will first give the disclaimer that I am so a “homebody”!!!! However, lets have some fun! I would suggest we visit DC. Many people who are not local have not experienced DC and all it has to offer with museums and food options.
Of course we would visit Baltimore to enjoy a Maryland Crab cake. Visiting Jimmy’s would most likely be my suggestion.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As an only child, I’ve always felt like I could accomplish anything. My mom has always been a consistent support for any and everything I come up with. My children, AJ and Ayven, patiently allow me to follow my dreams. AJ, as the oldest thinks the world of me and his love and adoration keeps me going.
My husband, Arlen, continued support allows me to focus on following my dreams and for that I am thankful!
God! I truly believe everything I do is to walk within my calling. He gives me grace to do this walk!
