We had the good fortune of connecting with Travis Eacona and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Travis, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always wanted to start my own business but never knew what I wanted to do or where I could find an area to focus on. One day I started playing with some woodworking designs and had fun doing it. The next thing I knew friends and family were inquiring on how they could get a design for themselves. I was in a job I wasn’t happy with and I knew I wasn’t going anywhere. It was then that I saw what possibilities I has as an artist to create a business doing something I enjoyed and that met a need in the community.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Most of the items I build are from ideas that inspire me. I also enjoy creating art designs that clients request where they give me some ideas and ask me to conceptualize a design for them. I started out creating in my garage and honestly I am still working out of my garage. I enjoy being able to work out of my house but I also have ambitions of having my own woodshop. My goal would be to have a devoted woodshop to create and design pieces. The biggest thing that I have a sense of accomplishment with my work is that I am using material that is repurposed and was slated to be thrown in a landfilled. I enjoy taking someone’s trash and turning it into another ones treasure!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
HA, this is a tough question to answer. I’m born and raised in Atlanta. I have some amazing places that I enjoy when close friends and family come into town and also many other places to enjoy when extended friends come into town. I’d love to share with others however I also want to be selective with the sights that are sacred to those who live here. Please don’t hate, just understand that we welcome all but love our gems! If you search you’ll find where the locals love visiting. 🙂

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m hopeful that most reading this have heard of “This Old House” and “New Yankee Workshop”. If you haven’t please look into these shows! I remember as a kid watching these shows and learning most of what I know. While I’m not someone to build a house from scratch (This Old House) or make items with just hand tools (New Yankee Workshop) each of these programs gave me an immense knowledge base to build my skills on to where I am now. Thanks from help with these programs I’ve been able to build designs when clients give me a photo and or idea ask if I can build what they want.
