We had the good fortune of connecting with Travis C. Patterson Patterson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Travis C. Patterson, how do you think about risk?
When it comes to risk, I did not obtain my experience the easy way in my life and career. I did not start writing resumes or gaining in-depth insight into career development by chance. It was risk; all risk. Like many people, I felt uncomfortable with specific jobs coming up. Like many, most people don’t have an actual blueprint of their career, let alone their life. There are so many guidelines and theories about what the dream life or dream job looks like, but that route is frequently filled with failure, disappointment, and often doubt of yourself. Based on my comfort and sometimes my hope for better in my life, I would feel like I was making sport of getting and quitting and sometimes being fired from jobs. Because I quit and was fired from jobs in my past, I quickly gained insight into how to interview for employment to get back on my feet and bring income back into my bank account. I quickly learned that it costs more to be poor and to make poor decisions. Often the jobs that I chose were mainly to pay bills and not live and have a personal life. After making the wrong choice and after interviews, I learned that I was good at something. I knew that I was good at performing well in my interviews, and dad getting a job based on my present situation was completely different from making a choice into which position I would want and would treat me better and ultimately pay me better.
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m the founder of PRR Training and Consulting based in Georgia, USA. Our lines of business include Patterson Resume Resources for applicants wanting to be job candidates, Resume Business Secrets for resume writers wanting to grow their resume businesses and Interviewly. Interviewly is an app that includes three-phase training for job candidates who desire to get interviews, improve their interviews experience, and increase their job offers. We have helped job candidates worldwide get the job they love and increase their job salaries by an average of $10,000 – $20,000. Over the past ten years, my experience in human resources has helped me have a well-rounded war chest of tools and experiences that immediately relate to supporting the job candidate. I have worked on every side of the interview desk. My primary focus has been to improve the candidate experience and their confidence in leaving the job interview. I started my coaching in a small town that is the home of BB&T bank, which is now Truist, in Wilson, North Carolina. Many of the jobs in this area are based on a few industries. I knew that to expand my resume writing capability, I would need to relocate. Georgia is home to well over 50+ different industries. I moved here because of the opportunities to help so many other people in various industries. DOL states that military, tech, banking, healthcare, education, e-learning, media, television, logistics, manufacturing, international/state government, SaaS, hospitality, and many more are areas people work here in Georgia. There are so many learning lessons that I have experienced over the past decade in business, but I would say that you can’t expect the growth you want to happen when you don’t surround yourself with opportunities to grow. Opportunities to keep you comfortable and that may even drain you will find their ways to you, but if you want to improve your personal life and your career helps to have experiences that are outside your front door. How many steps you take and how much you grow determines how far you are willing to go. There is nothing more powerful in life than making and owning your choices. People and jobs and other things may come your way and may seem like a good idea because they chose you, but when you get to know yourself and choose for the first time what you want, life begins to improve.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Georgia has some great places for fun and leisure. It’s also another reason why I love it here. Back home, fun would be going to the movies or hanging out at Walmart. Here in Georgia, I love to go to Atlanta and experience Piedmont Park, The Battery, many different restaurants because of all the cultures, and Ponce City Market. I love movies and shows so much and driving through areas where production studios are recording scenes. When I see famous actors/actresses hanging out or Stranger Things being recorded, my friends love to hear about it. One day, just exploring Krog Street, I walked into a reality show called Married To Medicine. A DC show called Naomi was being shot one day and stopped by to see the action after I took my wife to work. The whole city of Atlanta is an evolving journey I love to take.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out to Keisha Reed of Reeds Writing Studio. I met her a few years ago, and she asked me to help her improve some of the skills that she wanted to build professionally and with her business. So I worked with her and asked her to help me write some resumes, and she quickly absorbed every bit of advice and guidance that I shared with her. I’ve never seen anyone develop so soon. Her writing style advanced so well that she went from learning how to walk to piloting a SpaceX rocket ship.
She told me that the purpose of writing her first book and becoming an author was to help other parents with children of disabilities. She has a son on the autism spectrum that challenges her, and just like every other part of her life, she accepts the challenge and overcomes any hurdles in her way. She is a teacher, mother, daughter, and friend, and one of her main goals of improving her writing was to enhance her communication to help more parents make their obstacles easier the way she did.
