We had the good fortune of connecting with Trae Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trae, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process when I started Campania Publishing, LLC was a joy! it’s been a goal of mine to be a Self-Published author with a publishing company. Too many times I sat on the bench, watching others complete their goals. It was my time to get my business in order to make it happen.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a Self Published Author. What sets me apart from everyone is regardless of whether it’s a fiction or non-fiction book, the goal is to Entertain, Educate, and Enlighten. I’m excited that I have published two books and in 2022, I’m planning to release three books.

It’s not easy being a self-published author and owner of a publishing company. Every cost, marketing, and decision falls on me. I try to make the right decisions and understand how to market and promote my book. Networking and establishing relationships are highly important.

One of the main things I learned is that you (me)… as the author is a Brand. What I post, what I say, and what I do affect my brand and what people think of me. People would assume when we speak about brands, people think about a business. But a person can be a brand. A person may not know me, but how I proceed, they will judge me on what they think or assume about it. My brand is a Southern Gent with a big bag of SWAG! lol

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend comes in town, I’m hoping it’s a weekend with lots of events to check out the city. There are a variety of different food spots that we will check out. For some good soul food like fried chicken, we are definitley hitting Paschals. For great pizza, my favorite spot is Feelini’s. But for seafood, we gotta hit up Pappadeaux. I would see if a sporting event is going on that weekend. We to check out an Atlanta Braves, Hawks, or Falcons game. If there is no games, we have to hit up JR Crickets or Taco Mac for some wings. In Atlanta, there are so many things to check out, it just depends what you are into or comfortable with.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a Big Shout Out to God for all of his blessings! I’m thankful for the support of my wife; LaToya Johnson, and to my Father-Jimmie Johnson, Sister and Brother in Law- TaVonda and Robert Collins, Brother-Taryon Johnson, and my In-Laws Sallie and Preston “PAP” Bentley. My other Big Supports are my best friends. I’m thankful for the Chief Operating Officer of my publishing company- Eric “E” Smith, Virgil Dortch, David Reed, and Dr. Corey Stayton. I’m grateful for the support from Dr. Mary Helen O’Connor who inspired me to go ahead and write my non-fiction book “How to Climb the Mountain of Financial Aid.” My co-worker Janiece Howard has been a big support in my career as an author. I must give a Big Shout Out to all of those who supported me, prayed for me, and blessed me with wise counsel. Thank you to my Copyright Attorney Brittney Jackson-Ballenger, JD. Thank you to everyone who invited me to be on their show to promote my book.
