Meet Tracy Dawson | Owner / Operator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracy Dawson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tracy, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I’ve always wanted to own my own business, I would have all these ideas as to what i wanted to do but was afraid of doing it out of fear of failing. I was sitting at my kitchen table one day and told myself that fear is whats keeping me from doing what i really wanted to do wich was own my own business . That day at that kitchen table i decided then after praying on it that i was going to step out on faith trust God and just do it. I began to do research on what i needed to do to make this happen like licensing the right vendors ect..ect..ect.., after all this was done i began to put things in place . I designed my websit e posted daily and continued to work hard to be successful . I came up with ideas as to show my customers my appreciation to them for supporting me by giving them a 5% discount on their 5th purchase. Covid came through and things got harder. I couldn’t keep the building i was renting because things had gotten slow for me. I moved everything back to my house and began to work from home. There was plenty of days / times i wanted to throw the towel in and just give up but the most high wouldn’t let me. I kept reminding myself of why i was doing this and that was to build not just a business ( a successful one ) but a legacy for my kids Keyon , Krishonda , & Jazzmin. I continued to work harder and harder and telling myself not to give up. I love to give to give back , help others so i came up with the idea of using my business as a platform to raise money to give to charity or people in need by having a fashion show to do this. The fashion show would bring the community together as well as allow the community to see that we could come together to be a blessing to others. The fashion show also allows people to see what Tracy Fashion’s has to offer and that we sale different styles as well as fashion for all body types.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Building my business was never about just business it was about building a legacy for my kids and grand kids. I strive everyday to get up and make this happen not just for me but for them. There are some days where it gets hard and i want to just throw the towel in but when i think about them and what i do it just reminds me of why i’m doing this. I got to where i am through the most high he gives me strength, courage, and motivation to do this on a daily basis. I overcome my challenges through prayer. The lesson iv’e learned along the way is nothing is easy nor given if you want it bad enough you have to put the work in. I want the world to know that i have a saying ” I Came From Nothing Only To Have Something” in terms that means to me that because i didn’t have a lot as a child growing up i made it my business to push myself harder each day to be the best me that i can be for myself as well as for my kids. I also came to the conclusion that my past doesn’t define me as well as how i grew up but i define me inspite of.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am really a home body … I might get out here and there just to get outside the 4 walls but if my best friend Tiffany decided to visit me we’d probably be at the house relaxing listening to as we like to say “old school music “and catching up. Tiffany and I are much alike when it comes to being homebodies. I am very dedicated to what I do and am are trying to do with my business . I honestly can’t give an itinerary because I’m just free and spontaneous so we’d probably end up just doing something or going somewhere that wasn’t planned . we would just talk .. laugh and reminisce about school days and talk about our lives today about how we made it out of our past circumstances ( growing up) and how it made us the strong black beautiful women we are today

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Who deserves some credit and recognition you ask? I am glad to answer that for you. I give all the recognition… glory and praises to the most high first and foremost because without him none of this ( the magazine) my business anything would be happening right now. To my kids Keyon. Krishonda. & Jazmin I give them the recognition as well because along with God they along with my grandkids give me the daily motivation to keep pushing and striving to do it for them… not me.
