We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracie Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tracie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My whole thought process started with not wanting to spend the rest of my life working for someone else, building their brand and their company. I want the freedom to move as I please, do and spend time with my family, be there in emergencies, etc. I wanted to build something, showing my children what is possible.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a coach. But before all that, I am wife and mother. So what inspired me to start my coaching program started out of frustration and confusion. I felt like my life was at a standstill. I was miserable and unhappy with where I was. After getting married and having children, not necessarily in that order, my life automatically started revolving around my family. One day I looked up and couldn’t remember a thing about myself, my dreams, my hopes, nothing. I never had time for me. And on the rare chance I had free time or extra money, I felt guilty for focusing on myself. I was angry, bitter, and depressed. And my family couldn’t stand to be around me. Then covid happened and I was forced to face myself. Wrote a book. Created a coaching program centered around helping married mothers remember that they are individual women outside of their families. And to show them that it’s okay to bring their dreams back to the forefront and not feel guilty about it. In doing this, I learned that my family is much happier when I’m happy and at peace with myself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh goodness. There is so much to do in the Atlanta area, I honestly wouldn’t even know where to begin. I’m a nature person, so I tend to gravitate towards anything that allows me to be outside. Everybody who knows me, knows that my absolute favorite place of all times is Piedmont Park. It’s chill. There are so many restaurants in the area that you can grab a bite, get a blanket and have an impromptu picnic. Just people watching and listening to the city beyond the laughter, the children, the dogs barking. My next favorite place is probably Ponce City Market and the rooftop. I love a good rooftop restaurant! 9 Mile Station’s food and drinks is pretty amazing on the rooftop. Then I’d definitely have to take them to Atlanta Botanical Gardens because, I mean, outdoors, flowers, food, drinks, the whole nine. Let’s see, good food with a different flair and great experience, Poor Calvin’s is good. For a photographic experience, then we’d definitely go to The Garden Room. To finish it all off with coffee, tea, and a good ol’ slice of cake, Cafe Intermezzo.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people I can give a shout out to. I honestly don’t end know where to begin. Let me see, first my family. My husband for his support and encouragement. My children for their patience with me as I was a total work in progress. A very special group of ladies whom I met in a Mastermind course. They are forever encouraging me and I pull strength from them as I see them progress through their businesses. A very special shout out to Jasmine Womack of EMPACT Group for teaching and coaching me through writing and publishing my book, as well as teaching me how to build a coaching business.
