We had the good fortune of connecting with Traci Augustine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Traci, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I am currently based in Atlanta, Georgia. My original hometown is Clarksville, Tennessee. The most important decision that has contributed to my success is moving away from my hometown. Even though, leaving my hometown has led to many opportunities for my career, leaving my family behind was a difficult choice. I am a family person, I have always been around my family. The decision that I made was the best decision. The decision forced me into surviving on my own and bettering myself.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from others is that I am considered as a trendsetter by many. Following trends is not really something that I am into. I am always onto something new or being innovative. I am never scared to push the boundaries. I am an inspiration to the younger and even generations that are older than me. There is always knowledge to learn from me whether it is about the music industry, financials, or anything business related. My music speaks for itself and my appearance does also. I stand out from the crowd with my appearance alone. I am a people person and people are naturally drawn to me. I am very comforting soul and that is also the purpose of my music, to comfort many and help people express their emotions.
What excites me the most about my career is the experience. Many people don’t get the freedom to explore the world. I have met many great people, been exposed to different events, tried new restaurants, and met people that are normally only seen online. I am living my dream.
Overcoming the challenges that come with the career is not easy. There are still challenges to overcome. What helps me get through them is constantly thinking about my goals and thinking positive thoughts throughout every experience.
Lessons that I have learned on this journey is to enjoy the experience. Most people live their lives on the terms of others and always want to seek approval. People are never going to be satisfied so it is best to make sure that I put myself first and make sure that I am satisfied with my choices.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in the city is Piedmont park. It is a very comforting and soothing place. It is a very large park that is a breathe of fresh air. Piedmont park is life and it makes you feel like you’re in a movie. People are running, on roller skates, playing basketball, having picnics etc. People are enjoying life and having fun. Going there gives me inspiration. If I’m taking someone to a restaurant, it would be to the JINYA Ramen Bar that is located close to my home in the Buckhead area. My favorite ramen is the JINYA Tonkotsu Black, I also enjoy their crispy chicken and Brussel sprout tempura.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would live to give recognition to my support system. Being a musician is a very difficult career. My family has supported me throughout the journey. That is something that most people would not be able to say so it means everything to me. On the journey I have also gain the support from many new associates and the support from my fanbase is rapidly growing. I have met some amazing people. The city of Atlanta has welcomed me in as their own and made this a home for me.
