We had the good fortune of connecting with Tracey McKee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tracey, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance is the driving force behind my business and my personal life. Before I started my business I was an elementary school teacher. Being a teacher was very rewarding. I loved my students and loved teaching. What I didn’t love was the long hours I spent beyond time in the classroom. There is a common misunderstanding that teachers have it easy because they only work 6 hours a day and get summers off. Well, that’s unequivocally not true. Much time is spent outside of the classroom planning lessons, grading, tutoring students, going to meetings and attending continued professional development trainings. I often worked 10-12 hour days as well as on the weekends. I know very few teachers who are good at work life balance because their dedication to their students is why they teach in the first place. That dedication leaves little room for work life balance. I worked so much that I barely had enough time for my own children and family, let alone myself. During that time, I was the most stressed out I had ever been. The term “self-care” wasn’t even on my radar.

During what became my last year of teaching my grandmother passed away. She and I were very close, so her passing hit me hard and forced me to reevaluate my life. It was then that I decided I had to make a change. The imbalance between work and life was so great, I had forgotten my purpose, and I was no longer happy. I was burning the wick at both ends to the point I was getting sick all the time and ended up with Lyme Disease. My body shutting down forced me to slow down. So, I did. I resigned from teaching and focused on healing, both physically and emotionally. I returned back to my love of Eastern traditions and became Reiki certified. At first I learned for me, but I fell so in love with energy healing that I wanted to share it with everyone. This awareness is what propelled me on my journey to create a life where I can still teach but in a more harmonized way – healing and coaching with clients. Since then, I have learned to listen to my body, follow my intuition, and continue to pursue self-actualization. My business grew organically out of that pursuit and in a way that allows me to have the balance I need to be healthy and happy.

Boundaries and putting on our own “oxygen masks” first are the keys to balance. When we prioritize time for self-care, self-love and nurture we become more relaxed. The more relaxed we feel, the more mentally and physically prepared we are to deal with the ups and downs of life. I now make my own hours and I’m always sure that my schedule has room for what I need to stay healthy so that I can be fully present with my clients. It is my continued dream, through my alternative wellness practice, to support my clients in experiencing the same benefits and harmony in their own lives.

What should our readers know about your business?
Mindful Soul Wellness is an alternative wellness practice I founded in 2017 as a way to promote holistic healing. I provide services that aim to help people balance their energy, connect with their soul, and trust their intuition. I do this by offering the very same healing modalities that helped me reclaim my life, find peace, and thrive. Those modalities include reiki, vibrational sound therapy, past life regression, soul coaching, and astrology readings.

What sets me apart from others in the metaphysical healing space is my commitment to helping my clients harness their own innate healing powers. At heart, I’m a teacher, so all of my services include an element of education. My purpose is not to be the sole healer but rather to help my clients learn to heal themselves. Every session, regardless of the chosen modality they see me for, includes tailored suggestions or resources so my clients leave not only transformed but empowered to create their best life.

Ultimately, healing is a personal journey – one that must be owned, and my role is to guide and facilitate that process. I believe this is why my business grew so quickly and organically. My approach is authentic and comes from a place of experience. I know what it’s like to need healing, as I’ve experienced my share of trauma, both physically and emotionally. My story is what made me the intuitive healer I am today. Taking my pain, healing from it and then turning it into wisdom so I can help others do the same is what I’m most proud of.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
On a personal level, I would not be where I am now without my husband Cory. He has been my biggest supporter. He has encouraged me to follow my dreams, even when it meant resigning from public school teaching to find myself again and follow my passions. He sings my praises everywhere he goes, sharing what I do with others all the time. His love and encouragement was fundamental to me achieving work life balance and becoming the healthiest, happiest version of myself.

Professionally, there are three people/organizations that deserve credit in my story:

1) Dr. Brian Weiss, author of “Many Lives, Many Masters” and with whom I trained and became certified as a Past Life Regression Therapist (https://www.brianweiss.com/). That training changed my life and has made it possible for me to help countless others on their spiritual paths.

2) Vibrational Sound Association (https://www.vibrationalsoundassociation.com/) where I received my training as a Licensed Vibrational Sound Therapist. Sound therapy healed me in so many ways and I’m so grateful to provide it for my clients.

3) Debra Silverman Astrology (https://debrasilvermanastrology.com/) where I learned astrology in the most compassionate, applicable way using the wisdom of the stars combined with psychology. I loved Debra’s program so much that I now teach as a mentor for her school. Astrology helped me validate who I am and why I am here, and getting to help others discover the same feeds my soul.
