We had the good fortune of connecting with Tosin Akinnagbe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tosin, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Lately, I have had more people telling me to stop working all the time. Previously I was a member of a team or was the guy to-go-to, my efforts would complement the individual and group contributions of all other members accumulating together to accomplish the goal. As the engine and driving force for Diaspora or any company, I have been the fuel. The term no days off takes another meaning.

I think often about balance, as an individual I began working at 11 and realize I’ve worked more years on this Earth than not. I focus my efforts now on increasing my returns or creating force multipliers to create a greater impact with my efforts. I know I am in a building/creative state in my life and I want to help as many people throughout the American Diaspora with my efforts.

What should our readers know about your business?
Diaspora Farms is a new Black-owned Cannabis and lifestyle brand with the mission to own and grow on our own land and write our own legend in the process. We are focused on top-tier Cannabis which covers Hemp, CBD, and THC. Our first product has been the direct farm-to-door Hemp Flower. Our first THC product launches this August 2021, California exclusively as well as expanding our CBD line to include Gummies, topicals, and tinctures, and more. Diaspora is here to share the beautiful connection that all humans have to the plant and the stories of the incredible cultures and history of Cannabis from throughout the world.

Diaspora Farms was born in 2020 after an incredible year of challenges and struggles. We also have to understand the political climate we were in and the unique pressures not only humans but African Americans were under. As passionate Cannabis advocates, we have been watching the ongoing global legalization and referendum on Cannabis as well as experiencing the recent simultaneous BiPoc movement that exploded last year. My partner, Solomon Kirungi, and I both being of the African Diaspora and supportive of the ever-growing Cannabis movement understood an incredible opportunity was present to tell the true global Cannabis story, from our unique perspectives while ushering change on both fronts.

Both he and I have worked throughout our lives since we were teenagers. We both have supported the legalization of Cannabis in all of its forms since we were those kids. To see this new industry begin to form and the opportunities that are created along with the good that this plant does for people is life-changing in every way. We are here for it and to help others access the opportunites in this industry even if we have to create it.

One of the accomplishments that we are most proud of is the fact that we’ve had to learn it, build it, fund it, and protect it ourselves. Since the beginning we’ve been approcahed by many people who see the value in Diaspora Farms, the vision and mission and then go into recreate history mindset and attempt to seperate us from the company. It’s been a journey and taken the time it’s needed to get us here but, I can say confidently – We are extremely proud of what we’ve created and what Diaspora Farms stands for. We believe the time is now and we pray the worlds embraces our voice and top-tier Cannabis.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is to the African Diaspora, to African Americans, to my beautiful Black people. I believe in the greatness in our culture and the imperishable spirits of our ancestors are embodied within each of us. Now, today, this moment – history has found us and change is at hand.
