We had the good fortune of connecting with Tosha Wilson-Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tosha, what do you attribute your success to?
The success of my business, as well as the brand, has come from the fact that I have always put the client first. I have a “client-obsession” mentality. It simply means that I want the best for them in terms of their career growth and success. I work hard to deliver meaningful results that exceed their expectations. They see that and have kept coming back for additional services as well as referring family, friends, and coworkers. I always say when you have quality service or a good product, there is not much you have to do because your clients/customers will market for you. My resume firm has been so successful that I was able to open a physical location in Warner Robins, GA in August 2021. I am so thankful to the clients who have trusted me to assist them in reaching and exceeding their career goals.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Penciled IN is a woman-owned, minority-owned, BBB-accredited small business offering virtual and onsite career services. to college students, early-career professionals, and experienced professionals. We offer resume and CV revisions and full development for those clients who do not currently have a resume. We also offer cover letter writing, salary negotiation sessions, and mock interviews. In October 2021, we released a fully-virtual career counseling and coaching academy which is powered by Teacheable.com. It can be accessed using this link: https://penciled-in-resume-writing-career-counseling-a.teachable.com/. The academy offers a wide range of self-paced courses and full coaching and job search packages. Our most popular service is job search services. We search for jobs daily for our clients and prepare cover letters and resumes for positions they are interested in and the client completes the application process. This takes the time and effort of searching away from our clients and Penciled IN does all the leg work.

It was certainly not easy. This has been one of the toughest journeys that I have embarked on. In May 2019 right after opening my business, my father was sent to a mental health facility and in July 2019, my parents who had been married 38 years decided to divorce. In November 2019, about 6 months into my entrepreneurship journey, I had emergency surgery and my father had his first amputation 10 days later. In January 2020, he had his second amputation. Talk about some major LOWS, I have experienced my fair share. Yet, I learned very early in life to use my lows to LIFT me not LIMIT me, so I continued to march forward and pushed through all of the turmoil and here I am at the start of 2022, having served over 26 new clients in 2021 and running a successful resume writing and career services firm. Again, great gratitude to my clients and dedicated employees.

I want the world to know I am just a small-town girl who went for it. I don’t come from rich beginnings or have parents who had prominent jobs. My mother was a homemaker and farther a laborer at a manufacturing company. So, I am happy with the determination I had to step out of my comfort zone to open Penciled IN as a first-generation high-school and college graduate. I also wanted to develop a social services approach to the firm where my clients and I develop long-term relationships. This has proved to be invaluable in building a reputation that has kept clients coming back and referring others. Showing genuine concern about clients’ present and future is what sets Penciled IN apart from other resume writing services. I always tell my clients that they are family and the relationship built with us lasts well after they use our services.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I reside about 2 hours south of the Atlanta area. However, when I come to the city, I enjoy the Glenn Hotel, the Skyview Ferris wheel, and eating at the many restaurants around the Peachtree area. There are just too many to name. However, one spot that my husband and I enjoy is the Flying Biscuit Cafe – Midtown. Love that place! I am itching to try Pinky Cole’s Slutty Vegan restaurant the next time my husband and I visit.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out to my team including my Vice President and my Training & Outreach Specialist who have practically been with me since Penciled IN opened its doors. I also would like to show appreciation to two of my former business partners, Dr. Elizabeth Taylor of Elizabeth Taylor Properties & a Camp Forrest Historian and Mrs. Nakia Zanders of Mary and Martha Mentoring. Both have poured into Penciled IN and have trusted me to help launch their small businesses. I am forever grateful to them along with the 74 clients I have served in the last 2.5 years.
