We had the good fortune of connecting with Torie L. Haynes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Torie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Early on, I knew that I wanted to be my own boss. I decided that I simply wanted to do something that was exciting yet rewarding and from there, Haynes & Co. was birthed. My story goes back to my childhood and the extremely close bond that I had with my late-grandmother, Mrs. Ella Mae Brewster. She inspired me to want to give back to my community and assist seniors find safe, affordable, and adequate housing. Helping seniors is my passion; it fuels me each day to help those — who need a little help along the way. I owe it to my ‘roots’…I owe it to Ella.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am an Affordable Housing Property Manager for a community with persons aged 62 and older, who are on low to extremely low income; I also own a Property Management Company that services the property needs of residential and commercial owners. Venturing out into my own business has not always been easy — my most challenging year so far, has been during the on-going COVID-19 Pandemic. My business literally came to a halt — as so many of my clients were greatly effected by COVID-19. Many passed away from not only contracting the virus — but also the fear; isolation; and depression that can often accompany COVID-19 — were all just too much to bare for many of my clients. I want the world to know that it is always a GRAND idea to pursue your calling — your passion. TAKE THE RISK AND JUMP! The road is almost guaranteed to never be smooth but in the end, the journey is the most rewarding. Haynes & Co., was built upon helping others — helping the community where the resources for Affordable Housing simply may not have been there within reach. We pride ourselves on faith; love for our neighbor; and giving back to those in need. ‘Paying it forward’ through love, hope and grace — one day at a time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my Mother and Mentor, Mrs. Erma Haynes-Clayton of Haynes Property Management. Over the years, I have shadowed her and her career in Real Estate. She inspires me each day to be better than the previous day — to help others without expecting anything in return. Through her love and encouragement, I have been able to live my dream while helping those so near and dear within my community. There would be no Haynes & Co., without the love and sacrifices of my Mother. Thank you Mom!
