We had the good fortune of connecting with Tori Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tori, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
How do I define success. Success is NOT just when YOU make it. Success is NOt just when YOU are rich or when YOU are recognized for what you did. Success is WHEN you make it and you share the Knowledge, Money, Wisdom and Everything else you had to get there with others as well. You wasn’t Blessed to just say oh I did that. No you were Blessed to share it and help the next person, generation, etc. If you keep it all to yourself… to me that’s NOT success…..you just made it. Always reach back and Help others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a 13x Hall of Fame Woman Boxing Champion. What sets me apart from others…my work ethic. I’m a single mother of 2 kids. At the time they were elementary and middle school children with NO outside play time in the neighborhood. I worked 3 jobs and went to Boxing practice every evening that took us like 3hrs to get to just to spar for 1 or 2hrs. And get back on the rd to get home late so we can get sleep to start all over again at 5am the next morning. Was it easy NO. I hardly got sleep and never was hardly in a house I paid for also I wasn’t treated well at first in the sport that I loved so much because it’s a Male sport that didn’t think Females could or should be involved in it. So I wasn’t getting paid like I needed to at 1st. And I felt like I was doing more than the males were. I was working 3 jobs raising 2 kids alone and fighting and winning just to prove to them I could do it. My most exciting part of these journey …i have a few. I’m most proud of my 1st belt. Its an amateur belt but it was such an exciting moment for me. And then the Biggest….getting inducted into the International Women Boxing HALL OF FAME!!!!
The lessons I’ve learned along my journey is never give up!! It will get hard you will get knocked down and times will be hard but if you keep going you will be Blessed and that Feels Good. 💜

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was visiting for a week we would definitely hit DC. Doing the day we will go to all the different Museums there that would be about 3 days and at night we would go to see the Monument just because it so beautiful. And we would eat very good because that’s my 2nd favorite thing to do. I love Jamaican food so we will certainly hit a few of those and anywhere else they would want to go. But just know we will certainly be in the gym about 4 days out of that week. And I’m not much of a going out person so we will be in at night for movie and snack time. Lol I may not be much entertainment for company. But they will have fun.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out My Grandma Irma Carter My mom Jacquelyn Brown and my 2 children QuaMarque & Simone who kept me grounded showed me it’s possible and gave me purpose to keep going to do it! 🥰
