We had the good fortune of connecting with Torera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Torera, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Honestly, my business started as a hobby. I didn’t even know that what I was doing could and eventually would become a business. At the time that I created it, my goal was to find something to keep me busy and entertained during the summer. That same summer I was introduced to several independent and underground artists who were not mainstream but were actively working towards becoming successful musicians, dancers, and actors. As a singer and teen that had vastly similar goals, I was inspired by a lot of these young achievers! One of the artists I had been supporting and listening to— after a recent shift to a solo career— announced her feature in a magazine. After reading the interview I thought ‘This is kinda cool, why don’t I try this?’ So, I got to work. I decided that I would make a magazine dedicated to sharing positivity and inspiring other kids and teens with dreams parallel to mine, while concurrently drawing attention to other youth in different communities who were blazing a trail while pursuing their aspirations. Once I had an aim, I began researching and sending emails, then before I knew it, I had some interviews scheduled and I was slowly fulfilling my objective!

What should our readers know about your business?
XBlaze Magazine is a D.M.V (Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia) based Multimedia Outlet that is focused on delivering positive, timely, and inspirational content. We shed light on ambitious children, teens & young adults who are a part of various industries like entrepreneurship, entertainment, leadership, and more! But we don’t limit our focus to youth only, our mission is to enlighten our audience with wholesome, motivational & uplifting media, while simultaneously empowering and informing them! A few of the many things that set XBlaze Magazine apart from other media outlets is that it is an outlet that focuses heavily on spreading positive and uplifting content. XBlaze Magazine is also led and run by a Teen Editor and Correspondent. Making XBlaze Magazine one of the few print publications and outlets run by youth!

It took a lot of consistency, faith, and passion to get XBlaze Magazine to the caliber it’s at today. Aside from these three crucial factors, networking and professionalism also played a very momentous role in growing my outlet’s prominence and credibility! It certainly was NOT easy! I started my business and overall brand from the ground up, without guidance and with no repute or connections. Hence, I had to learn how to network and communicate effectively to get what I wanted and also deliver what was expected. Something I have learned along the way is that passion is immensely powerful! If you are doing something because you genuinely love it, then that love will provide you with more fuel than you think you have! I’ve also learned the importance of giving people a chance! Just because they are not popular or do not have a great number of spectators does not mean that their work is any less valuable, or that they do not have a story that is worth amplifying.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize my family for their continued support and encouragement! They are an integral reason why I’ve been able to achieve a number of my aspirations! I would also like to appreciate and recognize all those who have sincerely supported me and my business throughout the 6+ years we’ve been operative. Thank you so much!
