We had the good fortune of connecting with Tony Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tony, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I can proudly say that my business gives people life; literally. Fitness is much bigger than just exercising and attaining aesthetically nice physiques. For 20 years, I have had the opportunity to see people transform mentally as well as physically. The greatness of seeing others live a healthier life, is truly an amazingly positive impact to community as well as family. Healthy people are more positive, loving, and caring; and my business provides a fitness haven as a direct influence.
What should our readers know about your business?
MRMAXFIT is a brand name of MaxFit Trainers, LLC; a premier fitness training provider. Fitness training is a business of many variables, and my business provides personalized fitness programs for individuals in our gym and/or via our online platform, to those with various fitness needs and goals. It has been a long yet fulfilling road in fitness for me, with 20 years of experience. The fulfillment in this business for me, comes with seeing progress and change in others. Fitness changes are far more exciting than just aesthetically looking well from body transformations. When you have individuals in front of you, relying on you to assist them with change that comes in the areas of health, mental, along with the physical, the joy of what I do becomes more meaningful to life.
Being in the fitness business, it’s important to figure out what it is that you do best. I’ve taken different routes to get to where I am today. Each route taken has given me a wealth of knowledge and experience in the fitness industry. I must say, it has not been easy, yet it has been very rewarding. I’ve taken on a number of tasks and ventures in fitness to see what it is that I enjoy the most about fitness. Initially I felt that I would get into the business and help everyone that I had the opportunity to train. And I was also a bit naive thinking that because I knew how to exercise that this would be fairly easy to do. Boy, was I wrong. It takes much more than exercising and excitement. This business is predicated on skills, knowledge, and courage to be successful. And because of my enjoyment of fitness and my willingness to be great at whatever I do, I took on the journey to become more knowledgeable and train in different areas. Having the opportunities to train in different markets (corporate, sports training, bodybuilding, etc) has lifted my value in the industry.
I am here today because of my persistence to never give up. There were times of stress and not knowing if my fitness business would survive. Being physically fit and knowledgeable about fitness, is not the end all tell all to the business of fitness. When you are the Owner of your brand, you have to consider all the factors it takes to be a business. I’m talking marketing, accounting, advertising, training, developing plans, and so much more. It’s not easy, it’s very challenging. The fitness industry is a challenge, considering the influx of professionals doing the same job. But because of my dedication to the craft, my determination to goals, I remain great at what I do. What separates me is my niche of personalizing the fitness experience with all those that I can assist..
MRMAXFIT is reaching for new levels of influence in the fitness industry. And it’s time to give back to the fitness industry what it really needs to keep integrity in the marketplace. As I
approach another new year in business, there will be a new provision of fitness services offered to other fitness professionals. And MRMAXFIT will continue to strive for excellence in fitness.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a good one, LOL! I’m more of a home body actually. I enjoy spending time with my significant other and family. And honestly, I’m still learning of new places to go in Atlanta. There’s so much to offer in Atlanta now. I am from Atlanta, and original Atlantan (ATLalien)….and I am overwhelmed at times at how many new places and how many things there are to do here. So, from me to my friends, let’s see what Google shows us is available, LOL!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
About 20 years ago, I met a guy by the name of Allen Duke Wellington. Allen was a Personal Trainer at the YMCA in Baton Rouge where I worked out while attending Southern University A&M College. It was Allen that mentored me into becoming a Personal Trainer, and I can’t thank him enough for opening my eyes to a new career….and I have never looked back. He was the key component to jump starting my career. Along the way I’ve had a number of industry pros, friends, family members and clients that believed in my impact as a Fitness Professional, and I thank them all. There’s also one very special client that I must give a huge shoutout to, Avis Betancourt. This lady was my very first client when I made my move back home to Atlanta after graduating from college. She’s played such a role in my career taking off, and I can’t thank her enough. And I don’t think she knows just how much she has done in being there supporting my career with opportunities. There was a time where my career in fitness was looking very dim and dark. I was literally on the verge of giving it up. I mean, I was questioning what my next moves should be to sustain a meaningful career. After praying, wishing, and hoping for doors to open….I got a call from Avis and the light got brighter and brighter. Now, I look back at times, and see just how many lives I’ve touched positively, and I am just truly grateful.
