We had the good fortune of connecting with Tomika Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tomika, how do you think about risk?
I may be the only risk taker in my family lol. June 1st 2016, I quit my 9-5 without a savings or a plan. I was a single mom of 2 in debt and nothing to fall back on. I must admit this was the best decision that I’ve ever made in my life. Of course it was scary but I had enough faith to carry me through. I never considered entrepreneurship because that’s one thing that wasn’t discussed 20+ years ago when I graduated from high school.
I had never made 6 figures prior to becoming a entrepreneur, I have built a multi six figures business on social media. I’ve invested thousands of dollars into my knowledge not knowing what the results would be, I must admit every major risk I’ve taken I’ve prospered. During the pandemic I opened a Business school in California when the rest of the world was panicking buying all of the toilet paper I was renovating. 1 year later Business is still going well at the location, although I’ve recently moved to Houston Tx.
I started getting a house built in early 2021 and was determined to moved from California and I closed on my home in May 2021z

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Lol, I’m a super laid back person, all of the outings would consist of food, I have good food spots from San Francisco to Houston, and a few countries in between. We would definitely eat at Scoma’s for some of the best seafood in San Francisco, Vegan Mob in Oakland, lost & found & steak 48 in Houston.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my children, Shanai and Sean for keeping me focused and wanting to show them that nothing beats hard work and dedication. Thank the Meek University community for their continued support and coming along with me on this journey of entrepreneurship.
