We had the good fortune of connecting with TOBIAS THE HAIR SLAYER and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi TOBIAS, how do you think about risk?
Me personally i don’t think about the risk in business, I most definitely consider risk in life and in my career but had it not been for risk, i would not be in Georgia or even doing this interview.. I took a risk and moved to Atlanta with no job and a whole lot of faith. Chile my mom was furious. I was living in Florida in my grandmothers estate, rent free, complacent and not moving up in life. And I was comfortable with that. Guurl until I woke up and realized had to F5 my self, get out of Florida and remove myself from complacency. I was living rent free and driving my grandmothers paid for vehicle. No worries in the world, but i was still missing something. I was missing elevation in my career. As in life we take a risk by just walking outside so with life I’m a little bit more risk free. I try to choose my battles wisely when it comes to life per say.

However, I went to the Bronner Brothers Hair Show in 2016 and had a blast. I was totally overwhelmed at the visual opportunities rite in front of me but I was still stagnant in my decision to make that big jump to move . Before I left Atlanta I met up with a close friend form back home , that had BEEN thriving in Atlanta.. He just looked at me and said, Tobias what, are you still doing in Fort pierce, B,,, you got to get the heck outta there lol. He gave me some examples of salaries for just the hair field alone and I was sold. Also on the access to studios, artist, exposure and auditions that made my little hometown seem opportunity-less (is that a word lol). That following march, I took a risk and I packed me, my dogs, my unemployment and all my complacent crap in a UHAUL and headed to Atlanta.

My journey started off terrible as I had to sleep in that UHAUL for 5 days as I couldn’t move in my apartment due to maintenance lacking, However I pushed through and was able to move in. A Few months go by living off unemployment, it started to dry up and eventually ended (but god)., The day my unemployment ended, I was hired as a manager at family dollar. I had maybe one or two clients circulating,, maybe 5 lol , but I knew that I couldn’t quit my job as I was fresh in Atlanta and needed the income , so i pushed on through, and at the same time building my clientele when I could (as i was working for a salon inside of a hair store).

Hunny, maybe 8 months into the job,, the store managers cousin, who was also a sales clerk told me she was gone whip my Bleep. I said I’m sorry, uhh what what you say baby ( in my elderly voice) Lol. so she repeated it and went into this rant about me being to by the book. She even called her store manage cousin and told on me lol and thought she threw me under the bus (but god) . When I got on the phone, I let her speak her cousins peace and politely told her, that her cousin would be closing the store and proudly place the store keys on the counter and proceeded to that little salon in the hair store.

From that day to this one I have not worked for no one other than myself and I have over 200 clients.

So yes risk taking has played a significant role in my career and it payed off completely, Risk, God and a whole lotta faith is what made my life and career a success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
im hairstylist have been for 23 years and i simply love it and My customer service sets me apart from the competition. Im also a singer/ hip hopper but im about to let that go and focus on my hair career so that it can push my music career. A lesson i learned in this life is you have to just focus on one thing at a time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So my Besties were actually here a few months ago. for the most part were food connisuiers lol Sunday we went to OLG
Monday we did juicy crab
wednsay i had to take them to the strip club which is a highlight in Atlanta
Thursday we went to the Busy Bee
and friday we went to T.I’s trap museum. It was all a blast

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Its alway family for me. We are each others support system and its mom for me. She always knows, and always has the right answer while grandma provided a wisdom that you cant buy
