Meet T’ka Martin-Hines | Digital Media Coordinator, Dancer, and Co-Owner of Kingston Bay

We had the good fortune of connecting with T’ka Martin-Hines and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi T’ka, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
The one thing last year taught me was the importance of Self Care. Obtaining a great work life balance was my goal for 2021. As a work from home mommy with a 1 year old around the house, it has been tough to stay on top of projects, assignments, and deliverables, as well as making sure my 1 year old is taken care of.

I decided that it was important to give myself time each day, whether it’s an hour or two to practice self-care! The moment I spend to elevate myself brings forth a positive energy and mindset to tackle all of my work. It can be morning meditation, dancing, watching a TV show I’m been dying to see, or sleeping. I also set boundaries on my work hours. I try not to over exert myself while reserving time to spend with my son and family.

I can say today, I’m on the right path of an amazing work life balance. I am not as stress as I tend to get, and have been fractioning time for all important elements in my life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a woman with many creative hats! I am a Digital Media Coordinator at a reputable marketing agency, Content Creator, and Videographer for many client’s social media pages.

When I am not using my creativity in the digital world, I choreograph and dance in the real world. As a plus-size dancers, I have brought body positivity and encouragement to many people who felt as if their unable to move like most, which is a false mindset.

In the mix of my colorful work life, my sister and I co-founded Kingston Bay Premium White Rum! Kingston Bay’s White Rum is aged to perfection premium rum that derived from the essence and flavor of the most exceptional sugarcanes from the West Indies. The “on-the-job” marketing knowledge I’ve obtain over the course of 5 years helped shape the woman I am today! I use every ounce of information I’ve learned and applied it to my role as a contractor, dancer or spirits co-owner. I’m very open-minded and willing to learn more in the ever-so-changing marketing industry. I love everything I do because I’m always tapping into my creative bubble. While the tasks maybe strenuous, my fascination in witnessing ideas become reality is exhilarating.

I am very passionate with my work as a marketing coordinator and a creative. I enjoy bringing happiness to anyone I talk to or any projects I’m participating in.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is a beautiful city with interesting sites! While I tend to be a home-body, my son love being outdoors, which has me now accepting outdoor settings. A picnic in Piedmont Park sounds like a peaceful Sunday. I also enjoy the Battery, which is at the Braves Stadium. The new bar “Bar Vegan ATL” located at Ponce City Market is heaven!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a tremendous shoutout to an amazing co-worker turnt best friend, Abdias Castro. Abdias have been by my side during my first official career job and we have been inseparable ever since. We keep each other motivated and constantly encourage each other to grow within our field while loving what we do. He has always pushed me to keep an open mind and to always be willing to learn as knowledge has no end. Thank you Abdias for being a huge impact in my work and personal life.
