Meet TK Canada | Founder of refresHER., Certified Energy Practitioner, Intuitive + Mental Health Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with TK Canada and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi TK, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
My business was birthed back in 2017, a few years after suddenly losing my mother. I was soul searching within but also longing to find healing outlets where the people and spaces reflected who I am, a Black woman. At that time, I was limited with resources, specifically with therapists, so I decided to embark on my own journey by creating refresHER. I thought to myself, “this just can’t be me.” Everyone’s on a healing journey and if I can have a hand in nourishing spaces for women to heal without judgement, then I am ALL in. It started off just as a small, group “session” where we gathered over food, chatted about various topics and journaled. I most importantly just simply wanted people to understand you are not the only one going through something. Sometimes hearing it from a stranger next to you, is sometimes the black and white we need for it to make sense to ourselves. I wanted to be the driving force of facilitating healing experiences as such.

What should our readers know about your business?
refresHER., LLC is a sacred space for women of color, with emphasis on Black women, to thrive unapologetically through various practices of self-care. We offer healing modality-based services to assist in meeting you where you are in your journey such as sound therapy, meditation, chakra assessments + balancing, just to name a few. I service clients individually, but also do pop-up group sound healing meditations. There’s a quote I love that says something to the extent of “no one is you and that is your superpower.” While the work I do is on the rise as far as the growing popularity of it, which is super exciting might I add, I simply believe it being led by me is what sets it apart. We all are our own entities, and all have beautiful things to bring to the table. I will also add that there’s something I do called “refresHER sessions” that are super unique in the sense of combining a sound bath experience, and a journaling component, wrapped into one session. These both used to happen separately, and I’ve found combining them leads to a powerful, mind-shifting experience. During my certification, I fell in love with sound healing and the benefits for the mind, body and spirit. Our bodies are made up of about 70% water, so it is very easy for sound to travel easily through the body, to get us to a state of deep healing, rest, grounding, cleansing and a profound calming state on a physical, emotional, mental and energetic level. While I offer several services, this is my specialty.

Business isn’t easy; the work truly never stops. I have my 9-5pm and my 5pm-9pm I like to say lol. I am currently in the phase of exiting corporate to become a full-time entrepreneur and I am just having Spirit lead me as to when that time is – but soon! I would say the balance of it would be the most challenging and also feeling like I should already be in where I am in my mind, but again, I am not on my time, it’s Gods timing always. I am so excited to see where my journey is taking me and that is what keeps my fire lit and keeps me going.

To birth an idea from a seed and watch it grow is amazing. In my case, my logo is a lemon, and my brand truly represents me as the founder turning lemons (a tragedy) into lemonade (birthing a business and being a servant leader in my community.) I want people to know that it is possible to overcome the dark days. Prayer, manifestation and the belief in one’s abilities will take you a long way.

I would love to thank any client who has purchased a service from me and all of my mentors, peers, friends and family who have encouraged, supported and loved on me from the beginning, during and now at this point of where I am in business. Very special shoutout to Jen Escalara, founder of The Mystic Living School in Los Angeles, CA, where I completed my Energy Healer Practitioner certification in 2020. I have always been called to do this work but attending her school and gaining the additional knowledge I have from her mentorship was life-changing for me.
