We had the good fortune of connecting with TJ Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TJ, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Yes i do. My favorite quote is.
One day or day one. You Decide…..
This quote sits strong in my thought process because i believe in the power of now. Its easy to put something off for tomorrow, next week, or next year. Why not do it now?
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Over the years i have had different types of art styles. I have had jewelry made from glass, oyster shells, chain, paper, wood, seashells, and fabric. I am not sure what sets me apart from others, but if i had to guess i would say the chain I use in most of my bracelet designs.
Being a jewelry artist is no where close to easy. There are millions of Jewelry artist in the world, making me a needle in the haystack. I overcame this challenge simply by just doing my best, and never giving up despite the competition. I try to keep up with the latest trends, color of the season etc.
The lessons i have learned throughout my jewelry journey is to not let the lack of support weigh me down, to keep going and learn something new as much as I can. I have also learned that unfortunately it is not family or friends that will keep your brand alive, purchase my items, or show up to my craft shows. Now don`t get me wrong, I have had some friends and family support me throughout the years and i am forever grateful for their support, however complete strangers are the reason i have had success in my business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a great question! Here in Atlanta Georgia my most favorite place to visit and take friends and family to is a place called the Roswell Mill. It is located in Roswell GA and has the most beautiful waterfall and nature trails. The Atlanta Beltline is another place my husband and I enjoy. It is filled with great restaurants, art that has been painted along the Beltline. We enjoy renting scooters and riding the beltline while stopping along the way for great food and art.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I credit my husband for a good bit of my success. He is always rooting for me and complimenting my work even when I feel its not my best. My niece Andii has always been a great supporter and model of my jewelry. My biggest support and encouragement comes from my customers, there is no better feeling and boost of confidence than getting a raving five star review in my Etsy shop. Repeat customers those that come back for a second, third, or even fourth purchase brings the biggest smile in knowing they loved my work enough to come back for more.
