We had the good fortune of connecting with Titus Zeigler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Titus, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was inspired to start my business by a friend of mine in Missouri. He started a Junk Removal business about 3 years ago and offered me some advice on getting started. When I started the business, I was in the process of being hired at another company. But the process took almost 2 months. I had to take it upon myself to make something happen for my family. I have always had an entrepreneurial mindset, and junk removal seemed like a business that I could latch on to quickly due to its simplicity. Not only that, but I really did and still enjoy working for myself while being able to provide for my family. That’s what keeps me going.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Haul Away Junk Removal is a locally owned, minority-owned, and veteran-owned and operated company. We specialize in commercial and residential junk removal of all kinds. We have done everything from single-item pickups to hoarder house cleanouts. Furthermore, we also do a small amount of demolition and removal as well. During the summer, we remove sheds and decks. We have also worked as residential demolition crews removing flooring, sheetrock and countertops. If it needs to be removed, we can get it done. When I got started. I had no idea what I was doing. I didn’t know how much to charge. I didn’t know where to get jobs. I didn’t know a lot. But when I focused on was professionalism and customer service over everything. I always arrived on time and maintained lines of communication with my customers when I could not. When I first got started, I bought a truck for cheap on Facebook marketplace, and it was constantly breaking down. I learned how to fix some of it myself but I also spent a lot of money on repairs. I was also lucky to have gotten a contract with a company that maintains properties in the Atlanta area. There have been a lot of ups and downs, but now after a year I am happy with how far we have come.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would have to eat at the Vortex on Friday night then head to Bugaloo right around the corner for a night out. Saturday we could eat at Seasalt Atlanta for brunch and then head to Piedmontpark for a music festival. Then we would eat Jamaican food from Scotch Bonnet on Campbelton rd for dinner. Sunday, we would have to check out Stems Cafe for breakfast and head to a Falcons game. Then for dinner, we could eat at Poor Calvin’s.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out Kyle Landwehr the Owner of Slam Dunkin Junk and Floyd Bryant the owner of Alternative Capital. These 2 were my mentors, confidants, and most importantly, my friends. They helped me every step of the way and played a huge part in who I am today. Also, I have to thank my wife. She has been by my side and has been my biggest supporter since day one.
