We had the good fortune of connecting with TiShawn Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi TiShawn, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I was about 22 when I created my brand Modesti but I was still very intentional. Modesty was the only word I could come up with in the Bible about how women should dress…so I took that and added my twist spelling it Modesti with an I instead of Y and also using the slogan “Modesti is sexy” which is what I truly believe. In a world where everything is overexposed I think it’s good to maintain your mystery and especially women because I know we sometimes feel pressured with social media to be overexposed…but my brand and myself are examples that you can be modest and sexy!

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I love creating art. My background is in wardrobe styling but I’m evolving as a designer as well. One thing that sets me apart is being really into the business side of things not just the creative process. Naturally I’m very strategic and really good with marketing but overall I’ve gotten to where I am today by putting in the work, taking risk and investing in myself. It hasn’t been easy by far and I continuously learn something new in fashion and business almost everyday….one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the bigger the risk the bigger the reward. You’ve got to just go for it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m not from Atlanta but when I’m working there a few of my favorite places to go is the Garden Room, Toast on Lennox and Slutty Vegan!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve got to give GOD a shoutout…the connect! Also, my support system my mother Tisha, my sisters and everyone that has supported me in any kind of way.
