We had the good fortune of connecting with Tisha Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tisha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process began with, “How can I create generational wealth for my family”, “How can I encourage others to create generational wealth for their families”, and most importantly, ” How can I own a business, while educating others about products I love to sell”; the answer came to me easy, Insurance! The actual process is extremely challenging but absolutely worth it though! It’s worth it because I know the importance and the benefits behind having insurance, so my goal is to continue sharing this knowledge by educating others – sharing the wealth, literally!
What should our readers know about your business?
I own a Property, Casualty (Home, Auto, etc) & Life Insurance Agency in Atlanta, Georgia but the agency services most of the East Coast : Georgia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida.
I began my Insurance career while I was in my freshman year at Central Connecticut State University in 2014; during my training I learned about the investment tools that are granted to clients, that can make a fortune – from there I was hooked and wondered how many others have knowledge of this information. The answer… not many, so, I knew it was time for a change regarding how insurance products were sold. Every policy I sell isn’t just an insurance product, its an investment producer and protector.
I’ve worked for two insurance agencies over 9 years while residing in Connecticut, the financial capital of the US, and it was extremely knowledgeable but when I moved to GA two years ago, I saw the opportunity for professional representation, growth and wealth – not just for me, but also those who I represent; so, I decided to break away from the desk, put myself and my knowledge out there. Morris Family Insurance Group is a black owned family business that takes strides in helping community members establish insurance while learning about the rewards and gains from having insurance.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friends are visiting, the first day would be spent at LOA Rooftop, because it’s an experience. We’d start off with their brunch, which is absolutely fabulous, after a few mimosas, we’d dive into their divine swimming pool while turning up with their diverse DJ, sipping champagne of course and just enjoying catching up with a fantastic view. The night would be spent at Rock Steady because who doesn’t like dinner, drinks and dancing; we love the grown and sexy vibe, so, Rock Steady sums that up plus a bunch more that I haven’t given them credit for.
My friends know they can’t be around me and not attend an open mic event, so we’d make our way to Kat’s, where the scene is intimate, affordable and for lack of better words, a vibe! The artist rotation is nothing short of amazing and always fresh faces – just amazing.
The best places to dine are, Estrella Rooftop, STK Steakhouse, Parker’s on Ponce, and Adele’s – each location speaks for themselves and never disappoints. The environment at each are exquisite and the food is breath taking. I’d also take them to Edgewood Pizza because the music is always bumping and they have the best King slices in Atlanta.
Lastly, hitting the club scene is a must! I am Jamaican, so Ultra Flexx or The Royal Peacock are two of four the stops we’d make, because the international vibes are missing from GA and these clubs make me feel at home in the Caribbean. I’d also take them to CRU on Glendale because the food and hookah are nothing to miss. The last spot that we must visit is Magic City, for obvious reason but also, the food is mouthwatering and who doesn’t like dinner and a show.
Before leaving Atlanta, I’d take the girls to the Battery for some interactive fun, food, and drinks so we can recap the visit, and just enjoy our final day in Georgia! The Battery has many options to choose from, games, food, drinks, and honestly, just the ability to sit down in the center, detach from life and enjoy spending time with your girls.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out my family because without them, I wouldn’t be the “Go-Getter” that I am today or the woman I am always striving to be. I come from a very humble family that I am grateful for in everyway, so when I say they motivate me, it’s an understatement. I owe it to them to be the best, to lead by example and influence our youths, Levi, Scarlett, Jaylonie, Kashan, Rhylee, and Kalonji, to be their very best.
