We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina Charisma and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tina, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by the idea of being able to reimagine the world around me for better. My career has always in one way or another contributed to innovation, diversity and inclusion, and most importantly
building a better world. It is important every single day in whatever form or way we show up in the world we are attempting
to build and do better. This often starts with ourselves. I am inspired by being and doing better.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a storyteller. My work conceives ideas through thought leadership, communications, and journalism. Through out my career I have worked for global publications such as CNN, Euro news, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle Magazine, Vulture and more.
As a child I did not speak much and often found my self writing and journaling. I would archive all my experiences and thoughts through my diaries and journals. It offered me the opportunity to express how I truly felt.
I have found my unique cultural experiences have served as a catalyst to my current career where I get to work with organisations and publications to inspire through the power of stories.
I have addressed issues around technology, culture, gender, and other relevant topics pertinent to public and social issues. I tell stories which are often overlooked hoping to give a voice to marginalised communities and issues pertinent to them. As well as help organisations define their communications strategy and brand stories.
I even went on to found an NGO “Charisma Campaign” that empowers and influences change through sustainable, creative skills empowering people with tools for advocay.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favourites spot in the city include the High Exhibition of art. I enjoy all their great exhibits and love their inclusion of different art pieces. I also enjoy going up to the MLK museum doing long walks across piedmont park.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We naturally got here because of our parents, making them the most important people in our lives whether or not they left a positive impact on us or not. Growing up in a low income , single parent household meant I had so many struggles and hurdles in life already set up against me. It been such a journey, but when I remember how one person, my mother could manage raising two children as well several jobs to give me a shot in this thing called life. I find it hard to give up. Even my bad days are not as bad and I always show and give my best. I am inspired by the sacrifices of the previous generation and the opportunities and innovation of tomorrow. I dedicate my shout out to my mother and every black woman that came before me.
