We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Mulan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Definitely consistency when it comes to self-reminders, remaining a student, and patience for sure. It’s not easy working on a craft or actually anything built from scratch especially as a one woman show, but these habits have certainly helped me progress.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I always hear that I have a sort of personality (no pun intended) that people are easily drawn to, and sometimes that’s overwhelming to know, but I’m grateful that I’m the person that can make others laugh and smile or encourage. I’ve always been creative since I was in elementary school. I would write raps and poetry in my room and eventually lose them as the irresponsible kid I was, but people would always be surprised at what I executed during those earlier years. That love for creativity actually made me the woman I am today, so now I actually am a spoken word artist, not a rapper, but I play around at times (LOL) and instead of rapping double entendres and witty lines, I apply them to the small businesses I own like PersonaliTEA, It’s Type Lit, and The Brand Genieus. It’s easy executing things of course because my brands and anything I put out literally reflect me, I don’t really try. But sometimes the challenge is having everyone see me through my businesses too and supporting along the way. I’ve learned that there’s so much beyond what we see every day, I watched an interview of Tyler the Creator talking about reference points and how people will claim something is lame or simply won’t understand something or someone because of the bubble that they’re in and experience every day. And I kinda applied that to my life especially during the times when there’s a zero day or sales aren’t consistent for that week like, there’s so much beyond my Instagram feed and the people I promote to daily. There’s an ENTIRE world out there who doesn’t know about PersonaliTEA and what it has to offer and now it’s all about reaching them. I want the world to know how dedicated I am and how much I want this to be just…phenomenal.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take them to my kitchen first and whip up some PersonaliCed Teas! But seriously I’d take them to the Bronx Night Market because I’m a foodie and I love to make sure when others are with me that they’re full and comfortable, but it’s a dope spot to shop different vendors and foodtrucks and stuff with mainly minority owned brands. Plus it’s in my hood, I’m a Bronx baby! I also really love Los Tacos. My favorite location is the 42nd street one—Chef’s kiss.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my family and friends who never doubted the ideas I had. Just the other day, my sister in law mentioned how I said “I wanna kick off my tea company, but I’m still stuck between CreativiTEA and PersonaliTEA.” And she was super proud because now it’s something that’s been in the works for a while and something that’s done a lot so far but still has so much more to do!
