We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Burgess and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am originally from Nashville, Tennessee. I am the youngest of 4 children and the only girl. My grandparents and parents instilled in me the value of education and importance of hard work. I was also raised to have a relationship with God which is very important to me. I attribute my success to God’s favor in my life, the support and love of my family and friends, and my determination to succeed.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have a B.S. in Biology from Hampton University and a Master of Public Health degree from Emory University. By day, I am a public health practitioner.
By night, I am an actress, writer, and producer. I have written 2 children’s books, “Skin Like Mine” and “The Adventures of Junior and Baby Brother: Spencer’s Special Gift”. I am currently working on a third book.
As an actress, I am represented by People Store Agency. I have appeared on tv and in short films, commercials, and web series.
Lastly, I am one-third of the production company, Tyler Street Films. I formed with the company with 2 friends who also graduated from Hampton, Jack Manning, III and Lawrence Watford. Our films include, “Flipped”, “Catharsis”, and “Skin Like Mine Animated Short Film” in conjunction with fellow Hampton alum, Stanley Aughtry.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my bestie (shout out to Shannon!) to the mall…I love to shop! So we would likely visit Lenox and Phipps Plaza. I would take her to brunch at one of my new favorite spots, Howell’s Kitchen and Bar. We would have to hit up one of my coffee shops for a quick pick me up (i.e., Starbucks or Urban Grind) and then we would go to dinner somewhere with a nice ambiance and some good music, such Apt. 4B or Rock Steady.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shout out to my mother who is my biggest supporter. My mother has always believed in me. She is always there, cheering me on and picking me up when I fall. She is my confidante and without her love and prayers, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
