We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiara Shuneir and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiara, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
The year of the yes by Shonda Rhimes, I enjoyed the book because it gave you realistic situations that most of us have or will encounter and it challenges you to stop playing it safe. The book had a major impact on the way I approach things especially now as we close the end of 2022 and in the middle of a pandemic. It made me view things that I would have considered an opposition as an opportunity and to face things head on despite being nervous, scared, unfamiliar territory! Just do it !!! Like Nike says because one of two things will happen either it will work or you will regret not trying !
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a young girl I knew that I was called to something much more bigger than myself. People of all walks of life always take to me and feel so comfortable in my presence. As I have jouryned through life I hit a very dark place, I suffered in silence for a very long time. Depression came over me and I didn’t even know who it was that was staring me back in my face. One day I sat on the bathroom floors in tears and I prayed and asked God please help me through this, anything that keeps me from you I don’t want it! At that very moment I began to walk a path I believe that is ordered to speak to people but mainly women in their brokenness. Their are people out here that too are suffering in silence and they need to know they are not alone and that they are valuable. So I started a company called “ SelfCare Isnt selfish “ it is a t shirt brand but also a way of life, I also am gearing up to release a self care journal. In addition to that I have also teamed up with NAMI ( National Alliance on Mental ) where I serve as a facilitator over group meetings. My passion and my purpose is to speak to someone and through my life and my words they are inspired to keep going.
I am gearing up to create a Sister Circle that will be an online community. I will host monthly sessions on various topics, such as business, self help, depression, marriage, grief etc. I’ve teamed up with some dynamic women , that have committed to pouring into women right along side of me once a month virtually. I am here to cultivate, encourage and stir up women to live their best lives and to stay in pursuit of happiness!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ok so this is definitely going to be cut an dry because I don’t get out much lol … I would say City winery because I’ve been dying to get there. I love STK if you have not been please go the food is absolutely positively freakin amazing! We would definitely go shopping at Atlantic station and now that the weather is getting better go hang in piedmont park.. GA weather is very disrespectful so you have to pick a good day with favorable weather to be out there! And somewhere in there we would have to stop by Cascade! I can’t skate to save my life lol I’m more like Bambi but We can go for the experience of course ! And after all of that I’d probably sleep for the next three days lol
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If I had to shout out one person it would be my father Donald Allen, who recently passed in June of this year. Everything I am i owe to him, his entire life he has not only spoke resilience , hard work, integrity etc over his children he has displayed in his own life! My father didn’t have a lazy bone in his body, and even when he was down you wouldn’t know it because he kept going in spite of. My work ethic, my drive, my heart is because of everything he poured into us and the life he lived speaks even after he has left us. So to answer that if I had to shout out anyone it would def be the man that first loved me unapologetically.
