We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiara Jamison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiara, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I believe that as a natural loner an artistically creative career chose me. In the absence of a large social circle art became my best friend. As a Cancer, I naturally gravitate to creativity and things that evoke emotion, but it was not until I grew older that I began to understand that my quirky personality and love for creativity was less of me being “weird” and more of me being an artist. It is only when I am auditioning, developing a character, filming, recording a voiceover, writing or reciting poetry that I truly feel completely whole.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Before I am an artist, before I am a woman, I am a human being. It is important for me to begin with that because being an artist, a poet and an actress always overshadows being a human being. In a creative career, humanity matters and emotions matter because my job as an artist is to inhabit the thoughts and the ideas of a character while evoking emotion from the audience. In order to be a good artist, I believe you must learn how to be good at being a human being and that is what it means to be relatable. I am a poet, an animation voice over artist and a film/tv actress. What sets me apart from others is my perspective on life and the overall craft of acting. I’ve learned throughout my career that success in a moving target. I’ve learned to find joy in the process instead of attaching happiness to an outcome. I’d like the world to know that I am unstoppable. My success nor happiness is not defined by the opinions of others or whether I’m “chosen”. My path is not determined by an invitation to an audition, but instead by my desire to make a difference in the world through my art, that is my purpose. Receiving “the call” is only just an added bonus. My revolution will be televised, even if I have to produce it myself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
J Alexander’s has probably the best crab cake I’ve had in my life, which is my also one of my favorite eats. Ray’s On The River is one of my favorite spots for a Lemon Drop, which is one of my favorite drinks. Apache is one of my favorite places and will always hold a special place in my heart. I love to read and write poetry; I’ve poured out my heart on that stage on several nights. (Mini intercept: I have a poetry book now available on Barnes and Noble, “Nude Poetry”, by Tiara Jamison. Go get a copy, lol). Cafe Intermezzo is my number one brunch spot. Whenever I have an audition that requires a lot of character development I always have brunch there to do first reads of the script.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well, in the words of Snoop Dogg, “I want to thank me, I want to thank me for believing in me, I want to thank me for doing all this hard work. I want to thank me for having no days off. I want to thank me for never quitting. I want to thank me for always being a giver, and trying to give more than I receive, I want to thank me for trying to do more right than wrong. I want to thank me for just being me at all times. Tiara Symone Jamison: you a bad motherf—er.” In all seriousness, other than of course giving thanks to myself…I do believe that God deserves the upmost credit in my story. It is because of God’s grace, his mercy and the strength he gave me following the passing of my brother to continue to want to live, but also to continue to pursue my dreams. Last, but not least I want to give recognition to my loving mother who has never left my side throughout my career and most importantly throughout every step of my life.
