We had the good fortune of connecting with Tia & Tyra Cooper and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tia & Tyra, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor has been courage. We have been athletes since the age of 5 years old to the sport of track and field. We practiced hard every day and showed up ready to perform at every track meet despite any difficult challenges we faced. We faced many challenges and was not always favored. Track and field and our personal life groomed us in a courageous mindset to believe we are capable in doing anything we put our minds to. We carry this same mindset in our brand by taking on everyday challenges and making the best decisions to elevate our brand even if we are considered taking a risk.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Today we are formally known as CooperTwinsFit. What sets up apart from others is our athletic background and experience.
We have been athletes since the age of 5 years old running in AAU and USA track associations and through prestige high school track meets such as Collegate Games, Penn Relays, Mill Rose games and many other track invitations. We also competed in collegiate track and also trained for professional track and field.
We have gained expertise and knowledge from a ray of different coaches from different backgrounds and experiences. We have trained with technique coaches that have perfected our running form, we trained with speed training coaches who helped with explosiveness and techniques, strength training coaches who helped us gain power. With all of the combined trainings and expertise this has helped us to understand how the body performs at optimal capabilities.
After running track in college, and experiencing set backs and challenges with injuries, we decided it was time for us to stop our pursuits of professional track and field. We decided venture on to something new which was personal training. Personal training was a way we could stay connected to working out and being at optimal health while also finding a way to help others.
Our personal training brand started off small in our hometown of Wilmington, De training our mom, sister, and friends. We trained out of parks, tracks, and even trained out of planet fitness.
Some challenges we faced was transitioning from an athlete to a coach. It was something we never done before. It took us patience and time to learn our clients well and to deliver the best training possible. We also wanted to scale our business and figured it was time for us to take a leap of faith and move to a larger city to reach more people.
We decided to relocated to a larger demographic which has been Atl and the fitness community has been at large.
It took us sometime to establish ourselves within the Atlanta community but this place has welcomed us with open arms of opportunities. We gained numerous of different clients, we hosted a few camps, we were offered brand sponsorships, we’re offered a gym home from numerous of different gyms and so on.
Along the way we learned Without us taking a leap of faith, we would not have had an eye opener of how we could grow our brand in the fitness market.
We want the world to know we are a brand that empowers everyone. We want to educate and help others be at optimal health despite any challenges they may face in life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love a good brunch! So over the course of the weekend we would visit a brunch like BQE, Fins and Feathers, Atlanta breakfast club, South City Kitchen and a few other favorites.
We possibly attend a cute day party where we would engage in having a few day drinks.
Then also explore the night with dinner or possibly go out for a night of dancing at one of ATL hottest nightclubs.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
