Meet Thomas Mundy | Client and Community Specialist for The Fountain Fund, Outreach Coordinator for A Better Day Than Yesterday, Owner and Dounder of F.R.E.E. Llc

We had the good fortune of connecting with Thomas Mundy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thomas, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At some point in a man’s life, he should have something to call his own. It was about legacy, having something tangible to pass to my sons.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As Client and Community Specialist for The Fountain Fund, I have been able to give low interest loans at 3-5% to people who have been impacted by The Justice System for the purpose of stabilizing themselves once they are returned to society. This hand up has meant the difference between some people reoffending and some others staying free. As Outreach Coordinator for A Better Day Than Yesterday I have been able to assist with providing free groceries, youth mentoring, credit repair classes, workforce development and family reunification programs to the residents of Richmond Virginia. Creating my own Organization I was able in partnership with Virginia Health Department and VCU to participate in a one of a kind study based around Opioids and how they are affecting our community in which the results will be used to allocate resources to the hardest hit areas in Richmond. This is a groundbreaking project so I’ve been given coauthorship which is exciting for me

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Autumn Restaurant on Hull Street for food, or hit up Jerk make you twerk, Budderbrothaz, or Charde’s kitchen for all of my food needs. I would take them to Frozay or So,chel on Sunday for entertainment and brunch, Aces Sports bar on Wednesday for R&B Wednesday, 63ttirty5 lounge on Friday, and Monaray’s on Saturday.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s a lot of people that deserve recognition in my story. My mentor LeTeisha Gordon, my Media Director Lola of Glamxco, DFE entertainment, Virginia Health Department, The Fountain Fund, Putt, Chris, Yay, Trent, my cousin Tasha, Lili Chanel from 106.5, Shaniqua Medusa, Davinci, Prime N923, Ricky Parker just to name a few. These people all contributed in a major way to my success.
